Many dozens of gladiators would try, and fail, to destroy it until Mr. Torgue, who wants to eat it, hatched a plan to have it killed in a staged manner. When the Vault Hunters arrive at the site of the twisted games, Mr. Torgue instructs them to create a poison that will render the turkey vulnerable, against the direct orders of his superiors. The Wattle Gobbler eventually does take the bait and is killed.
There are also miniature Wattle Gobblers called Wattle Gobblets encountered in the boss fight. They are about the size of a regular turkey, but look very much like Ravenous Wattle Gobbler.
