I'm not gonna lie, most of this build is based of the Firefly Siren designed by Agitokatana/AgitoBlade with a few modifications geared for increased survival and quicker use of the Phasewalk ability. A word of note though: this build is also dependent on you having the Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot DLC AND completing the lesser challenges in BOTH playthrough.

How to play

Similar to the Firefly Build, this build is designed so that, when you kill an enemy, you gain various buffs that exterminate any other enemies in the nearby vicinity, and although it is heavily reliant on killing 1 enemy to reach it's potential, it's also styled so it can be effective if there are no other enemies around. However, unlike the firefly, you're for the most part chained to the Maliwan Hellfire SMG, and unless you're facing a fire badass creature or guardian you should not have any trouble with other fire type enemies. However a high rate of fire SMG or repeating pistol should compensate for the lack of Spark...and so will a rocket launcher.

This build also comes with a bit of a "Hail Mary" in particularly Phasewalk. Yes we invested some points into reducing the Phasewalk cool down but thats just so you can have it available for you next "Hail Mary" moment faster. By investing points into Inner Glow, we've given ourselves a healing option and a way to escape and kill enemies so you can use Phasewalk again faster.


Equipment

Weapon: As stated before the Maliwan Hellfire is crucial to this build; all of them have a decent rate of fire and decent accuracy, but the one thing that is absolutely crucial for this build is the Hellfire's 100% ignite chance. You're basically taking out spark so your chances of causing Elemental damage is reduced with any other gun. The only type of gun that is the exception to this rule is the rocket launcher, they will do high elemental damage no matter what. Also, for this build, you'd want a high rate of fire repeater pistol like the Vladof Vengeance and the Firehawk. With this build you need weapon contingency plans, so prepare to dedicate space in your backpack for them.

Shield: High capacity and high recharge rate is a must, a "nice to have" is health recharge, however if you can't find a high capacity and health recharge in one shield, then find one that gives fast health regen and keep it in your backpack, switch out when you're low on health and traveling, or have a chance to take cover for a bit so you can save your phasewalk for when you're really in the weeds; remember, Sirens are squishy. All other perks are just that...perks.

Grenade Mod: The one that works best with this build is Transfusion, but depending on your play style other mods can work as well.

Class Mod: The class mod versatility is great in this build and it's really more situational, Firefly is the mod that the original build used and I have no arguments - it's a solid mod with great bonuses. However If you're having survival issues, or if you know you're going to get hit a lot, I recomend the Defender. The added shield and resistance helps, it's also great when in co-op play. Tormentor and Mercenary are great ones to play when you need the extra elemental damage when not using the Hellfire. Catalyst can be used if you want or need Phasewalk faster, and the faster shield regen isn't bad either. The other two mods are almost worthless with this build, because it relies on fire so much that it negates the usefulness of Tempest and Plaguebearer.


Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • Incredibly high damage output
  • High shielding and survivability
  • Burning enemies allows for easy Second Winds
  • Despite being reliant on killing an enemy to use to it's full potential, it's still an effective boss spec
  • Incredibly effective for Zombies (unless you're harvesting brains)
  • Highly Versatile solo or co-op
  • Great escape route with health regen

Cons:

  • Phoenix is infamous for blowing up stray barrels, beware treacher's landing
  • Relies on killing 1 enemy for full effectiveness
  • Relies on the special effect of the Maliwan Hellfire to be 100% effective
  • Relies on having the latest DLC
  • Reduces the effectiveness of other elemental weapons
  • Not very effective against guardians or fire badasses


Variations

Increased Phasewalk reduction: Take two points out of Phoenix and put them in Hard to Get. This reduces the time you have to wait, and the number of enemies you have to kill too, before you can use it again.

Chance to Daze Enemies: Take two points out of Phoenix and High Velocity, and one point from Blackout, and put them in Hard to Get and Mind Games. This opens up Mind Games, and gives us a 5% chance to daze enemies.

Faster Speed: Take two points from Phoenix and one point from High Velocity, and put them in Intuition. While this requires us to kill one enemy before we get the speed bonus, it's still very doable especially when you're in a firefight and several enemies are ignited.
