Threshers are creatures that appear in Borderlands 2. Threshers are stubborn, tentacled creatures that come in many different sizes and colors. Threshers tend to live in soft ground, especially along shores or river beds.

Appearance

Threshers are very long creatures with a large, bulbous head perched upon an octopus-like body with several long, spindly tentacles sprouting from just below the head. Threshers vary in size from several feet long to fifty or more. Threshers' critical hit zones are the several small eyes on the side of their heads, and similar (albeit much larger) organs on their tentacles. Being well-anchored in the ground, threshers cannot be uprooted by Maya's Phaselock, and will instead take damage from it. When killed, a thresher's corpse will slip back down into its hole and out of sight.

Types

Thresher

The most basic type of threshers. They are only known to appear in the Natural Selection Annex. Oddly enough, despite being the basic enemy type, standard threshers have a more complex attack pattern than the Tadpole, Wormhole, and Feeler threshers. Not only do they possess a variety of melee attacks, but they often burrow and summon several different types of tentacles which can be killed individually without damaging the thresher.

Tadpole Thresher

Tadpole Threshers are the weakest type of thresher. They can attack by flinging small spikes from a pair of tentacles, or lashing at a nearby enemy. Like other threshers, they travel by burrowing through the ground, however unlike the larger varieties, Tadpoles occassionally breach in combat. They cannot be harmed while completely underground. In True Vault Hunter Mode, they are renamed Leech Threshers.

Slagged Thresher

Slagged Threshers are small threshers elementally charged with Slag. Slagged threshers are slightly larger than Tadpole Threshers, and operate very similarly to them. Slagged threshers cannot be afflicted by Slag, and are resistant to damage from Slag weapons as well.

Wormhole Thresher

Wormhole Threshers are small adult threshers. This variant of thresher can pull enemies toward it, impaling them on the various spikes covering its body. Their target will take constant damage while in contact, until either they weaken the thresher enough to break free or it simply lets go. If there is enough distance between the thresher and an enemy, it will fling spikes. In True Vault Hunter Mode, they are renamed Black Hole Threshers and the range of their singularity is improved.

Feeler Thresher

A somewhat larger variety of thresher, Feeler threshers attack primarily by driving their tentacles into the ground, sending them towards their prey and attacking from below. While this makes them substantially slower to attack than Tadpoles, their attack also does significantly more damage and is harder to dodge, as it is a homing attack rather than flying in a set arc. Like almost all threshers, if its target is at a distance, it will fling spikes.

Turf Thresher

The largest of the standard threshers, Turf threshers appear to have manes, possibly made of vegetation or fungus. Where most standard threshers attack with only a pair of tentacles, Turf threshers will deploy a large number of them, each flinging spikes at their targets, or swatting at them if they are nearby. Individual tentacles can be destroyed by shooting a small eye in the middle of the appendage, which will deal some damage to the Turf thresher as well. While not usually a major threat individually, Turf threshers can prove to be an obstacle, and in a group their barrage of attacks can quickly whittle prey down. In True Vault Hunter Mode, they are renamed Mossmud Threshers.

Badasses

Badass Pyre Thresher

Badass Pyre Threshers are large threshers elementally charged with Fire. They attack in a similar manner to Turf threshers, but their attacks deal additional incendiary damage. Additionally, a Pyre Thresher generates a Fire Nova every time it surfaces, dealing massive damage over a large area to anything it is hostile to. They use this attack often, and as such they are capable of quickly downing a Vault Hunter. Badass Pyre threshers cannot be set on fire, and strongly resist incendiary weapons.

On True Vault Hunter Mode they are called Super Badass Pyre Threshers.
