Thieving Jabbers are a rare type of jabber enemies encountered in Borderlands 3.

Background

Thieving Jabbers are a rare variant of the Jabber species and can be found in various parts of Eden-6 and the Trial of Instinct. Damaging this enemy will cause it to drop money constantly, while killing it will drop various rarities of loot. The special barrels that they tend to carry also share these qualities.

Strategy

While having little to no attack patterns, the Thieving Jabber has a large amount of health and moves around rapidly. They often carry a special Jakob's barrel that drops cash when damaged. If this enemy gets too far away from the player, or doesn't take damage for an extended period of time, it will burrow into the ground and escape along with all of its loot. Using weapons that deal large amounts of damage, such as launchers, are effective in keeping it from burrowing. Cryo weapons are also effective in slowing it down and freezing it.

Notes

The special Jakob's barrel they tend to carry is an entity with some unique qualities. Unlike most destructible objects which drop loot when destroyed, this barrel drops cash with every hit until it is destroyed, after which it drops various rarities of loot. In addition, this barrel also has a hidden "health bar" that scales with the players level and the current mayhem level, giving it more qualities of an enemy rather than an object.

This unique mechanic can be exploited to acquire large amounts of money by using weaker weapons to damage the barrel. The legendary Night Flyer pistol, however, is perhaps the most effective weapon to use as it cannot actually destroy the barrel. This allows for money to be acquired infinitely as long as you have pistol ammo available.
