The Meriff, real name Huxter T. Meredith, is a character from Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel.
Background
Huxter was originally working for Hyperion, under Jack's division. At some point, he made a deal with the Lost Legion, and started to sabotage Hyperion's moon base, in exchange for money and power. He took control of the spaceport Concordia, claiming both titles of Mayor and Sheriff, which he combined into "Meriff".
Sometime prior the events of Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, Colonel Zarpedon coerced Huxter into granting them access to Helios. Fearing for his life, he complied, and additionally set up a jamming signal with the help of RedBelly, leaders of a Scav gang based in Crisis Scar to disable Helios' defenses.
Involvement
When the Vault Hunters get to Concordia, Jack suggests them to go look for the Meriff. However, they are locked out of his office, so Jack suggests Moxxi instead. While fixing up the transmitters for Moxxi, they discover that the Meriff has been involved in sexual activities with Moxxi's geisha bot, Sereena, much to Moxxi's dismay. After locating the source of the jamming signal, the Vault Hunters are confronted by the Meriff's lockdown, but Moxxi helps them to bypass it with a backdoor exit.
The Vault Hunters eventually discover Meriff's true allegiance once they manage to kill RedBelly and shut down the jamming signal when he inadvertently compromises himself trough a transmission to the Scav leaders. Jack and the Vault Hunters set off to confront him, though Jack merely wishes to evict the Meriff. Along the way, they enlist the assistance of CU5TM-TP by informing it of the Meriff's incident with Sereena, prompting the furious robot to join them.
The Meriff initially tries to scapegoat his responsibility on Zarpedon. Jack decides to spare him and demands him to leave. As soon as he turns around, the Meriff attempts to assassinate Jack with an Iron, but misses and begs for mercy. Enraged, Jack shoots and kills the Meriff with his arm blasters.
