[[File:BL2 - Gaige Skill - MLPFiM References.jpg|thumb|150px]]

It's interesting that, prior to Gaige's skills being revealed, the only MLP:FiM reference was hidden away in the credits, yet now her skills add at least four more references. Possibly six, considering "Potent as a Pony" and also "Discord," but those were uncertain enough that I abstained from adding them to the pop culture references page. She's like some sort of pony-reference cluster bomb...I wonder what caused this? -- {{:User:Claptrap/sig}} 23:48, October 8, 2012 (UTC)

Looking nice!

From what I can see, she's probably a former member of Hyperion. If you look at the picture on Zer0's page of him stabbing a Hyperion guy in the groin, you can see the enemy has similar features (i.e. robotic arm, other mechanical parts, etc).

17:53, April 15, 2012 - Craftyard.

cybernetic augmentation in borderlands is not unique to new cyber-punk-girl. helena pierce introduced us to it with her mechanical arm. new girl may have simply had an accident similar to whatever gave pierce that beauty mark on her cheek. remember, too, that cyberchick is still paper-and-pencil at the time of this writing.
Fryguysigwob 17:06, April 15, 2012 (UTC)
Perhaps, but there's always the fact that she has a Death-Trap robot companion, which is obviously a play-on-words from Clap-Traps. Clap-Traps were manufactured by the Hyperion corporation, which suggests the Death-Trap may have been as well, or is at least in the prototype stage during the events of BL2. The Mechromancer's 'story' might involve her leaving the company, and taking the prototype Death-Trap with her, working on it herself so that it can be used in combat. <--- All speculation.
20:09, April 16, 2012 - Craftyard.

Im guessing that she was a failed experiment made by the clap-traps during the robolution to get the vault hunters trust, and had been thrown away but survived and found another failed atempt(death-trap) and decided to join the vault hunters.

(Dr. F's note - im liking this page. fine speculation.)

Steam Punk Feeling

She kinda gives Borderlands that "steam punk feeling" to the game. The mechromancer class is like a steam punk-kinda class. Even her clothes and arm give the steam punk feel!!! If you ask me, the mechromancer gives a whole new feeling and effect to Borderlands 2. Nealon The Siren 21:11, May 11, 2012 (UTC)Nealon The Siren

I get the distinct feeling you don't know what steam punk looks like.

This is very much cyber punk.75.139.168.85 03:26, July 31, 2012 (UTC)Lurker

The name

"Gauge," not "Gage." twitch Dämmerung 18:33, August 22, 2012 (UTC)

Oops. I heard "Gage" though... ? happypal (talk • contribs) 20:24, August 22, 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, I was annoyed when I saw it had been moved. I had actually gone as far as to slip a notice template into the article head to request nobody move the page until we had a spelling example, but then backed off when the page wound up looking ridiculously cluttered (and assumed none of the admins would move it anyway). Now let's hope that it doesn't get unlocked again until there is concrete release data available. -- WarBlade (talk) 21:10, August 22, 2012 (UTC)

I did not see this notice. Where is it? Anyways, I was following suit on Dr.F. I think that admins should administer the website, but does not give them editing privileges, and is 50% of the reason why I unlocked the page: If F and I can edit it, so should our editors. Sorry for the inconveniences. happypal (talk • contribs) 21:46, August 22, 2012 (UTC)

About the notice, the edit was previewed and abandoned. As far as the page locks go, I'm inclined to agree, but I have to be realistic and point out that admin-only locking is helpful to filter the info from the noise. We can edit, sure, but if everyone can, we will get articles brimming with microedits based only on early commentary by developers that inevitably becomes a lottery of valid and invalid data. -- WarBlade (talk) 22:08, August 22, 2012 (UTC)
"Gaige". My third guess, and a higher probability of being accurate. -- WarBlade (talk) 05:32, August 23, 2012 (UTC)
Thanks guys, I posted the news stating the name, but as it was an interview I couldn't get the spelling. I left the pages because I didnt know how it would be spelt, but they were edited still. Plus, who would have thought to spell it 'Gaige'. I just spelt it phonetically. 86.29.215.195 16:38, August 24, 2012 (UTC)

No thanks. It's protected for a reason. It's time to tidy up the Borderlands 2 content, not leap ahead to the DLC in development. -- WarBlade (talk) 00:23, September 5, 2012 (UTC)
On that subject, she has a release date now (16th October) and it's not only less than the expected 60-90 days, it's just a month after the game itself hits. Shiroi Hane (talk) 00:47, September 13, 2012 (UTC)

Gamespot Sneak Peek

Gamespot got a sneak peek of her (unskinned) character model and partial skill tree here. Her class mod is a lunchbox (like Maya's book, although it doesn't appear to be visible on her model, at least not at present). Her "Close Enough" skill, when maxed out, gives a 50% chance for a missed shot to ricochet towards something while doing 50% damage. Shiroi Hane (talk) 20:53, September 7, 2012 (UTC)

Price

The price of the mechromancer class for those that didn't preorder is $9.99/£7.99/800 MS Points. This should be reflected in the article itself instead of the "small fee" bullshit that's there now. Nohai 05:40, September 16, 2012 (UTC)

Season Pass?

so since i bought the season pass, does that mean i will get this automatically when it comes out or do I have to pay extra for this class?z

I like Gunzerker cause im a guns blazing sort of player, but this class looks badass

Gaige's combat abilities?

Is she strong enough to Engaige powerful enemies?

Mechromancer Class

the Mechromancer Class is not included in the season pass.

http://www.vg247.com/2012/09/21/borderlands-2-more-character-dlc-planned-if-mechromancer-is-a-hit-with-fans/

Does anyone know what is meant by the statement, "Gaige's skill tree features player challenge level variances. This would make her both the easiest and the most difficult character to play."

This probably means that she is easiest character to start with but will have tougher time in late game. Also she was desinged to support new players to FPS games and may also mean that she is not as strong as everyone else if you are a veteran player of FPS games.

About the newest picture...

Can somebody add that to the page? I would myself but apparently it's locked. CrackLawliet (talk) 23:43, October 4, 2012 (UTC)

New skills

Some skills revealed via Twitter:

Make it Sparkle
"That tech lets me to imbue Deathtrap with any elemental damage type by shooting him with that element. So, your normal Deathtrap slashes a dude with his digistruct claws. Which is awesome. But after I make it sparkle with, say, a fire gun the poor sucker on the end of Deathtrap's claws will be bleeding AND burning AND screaming. SCIENCE, BITCHES."
Upshot Robot
"The tech makes it so any kill I get while DT is out will increase his duration time and buff our melee damage. So basically, I can keep DT on the field forever if I can keep wrecking fools! AND my kills make DT and I more powerful the longer he's out!"

Anarchy

So is anyone interested in investing into the "Ordered Chaos" tree? Personally, I can't wait to try out the Anarchy and Discord skills. This means I can't invest in the 20% Cooler skill, but it seems to be worth the sacrifice. MyDreamName (talk) 22:03, October 8, 2012 (UTC)

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

BL2 - Gaige Skill - MLPFiM References

It's interesting that, prior to Gaige's skills being revealed, the only MLP:FiM reference was hidden away in the credits, yet now her skills add at least four more references. Possibly six, considering "Potent as a Pony" and also "Discord," but those were uncertain enough that I abstained from adding them to the pop culture references page. She's like some sort of pony-reference cluster bomb...I wonder what caused this? -- ClaptrapTorgueSig Claptrap icon Jakobscoveclaptrapz 23:48, October 8, 2012 (UTC)

I went ahead and already added 20% Cooler, since it is the most explicit, but yeah, she did manage to bring in some sort of brony culter explosion, didn't she? MyDreamName (talk) 00:25, October 9, 2012 (UTC)

Heh, missed "Evil Enchantress." That's the second-most explicit. It's almost like that one developer added in something related to the show in the comments, and then Gearbox went crazy or something and worked the titles of their skills (http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-bUeIYXbAqPw/UHNK03ONsMI/AAAAAAAA72o/VbLtOMMSj8Q/s1600/1.jpg). The only ones I can't remember off the top of my head that are included in the image are "fancy mathematics" and "sharing is caring." MyDreamName (talk) 00:28, October 9, 2012 (UTC)

fancy mathematics : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ucE05W3W8WA (Applejack)

sharing is caring : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6t13wLot3hM (Pinkie Pie)

Forgot this one: http://imgur.com/IQPJV That means that Gaige's skills are literally around 20% MLP references. MyDreamName (talk) 00:33, October 9, 2012 (UTC)

"Make it Sparkle" could also be a reference to one of the protagionists, Twilight Sparkle. I would normally pass it up, but considering how blatant Gearbox was with the other names... MyDreamName (talk) 00:38, October 9, 2012 (UTC)

No correlation to the main character in any sense in reference to quotes and or situations. So I doubt that only because the word "Sparkle" is in it, it's a reference. CrackLawliet (talk) 02:32, October 9, 2012 (UTC)
Couldnt "Make it Sparkle" be a reference to "Make It Shine" from Nickelodeon's Victorious? doesnt have to be a MLP reference. DaWnBrEaKeR (talk) 14:45, October 9, 2012 (UTC)
The flavor text says "Robots are like vampires: they sparkle when hit with incendiary rounds." Sparkling vampires = Twilight. Twilight + Sparkle. It's a really cleverly hidden reference. Vilkia (talk) 16:22, October 9, 2012 (UTC)
Ha, a reference within a reference! That's not enough, we need to go Deeper!
Ixbran (talk) 23:54, October 9, 2012 (UTC)

I'd also like to add that "The Stare" is, most likely since there are so many others, a direct reference to another protagonist, Fluttershy, also known as "The Staremaster". She uses "The Stare" to frighten the living sh*t out of everything and everypony. Jokkepokke (talk) 03:45, October 13, 2012 (UTC)
To all, "The Stare" is in reference to a woman's menacing glare in general. "Make it Sparkle" is directly a Twilight vampire reference, "Potent as a Pony" is NOT a MLP reference but in fact, a reference to the old phrase "Healthy as a Horse". "Fancy Mathematics" is a science pun while "Sharing is Caring" is a kids television reference (any show in general). "Cooking up Trouble" is another TV reference (which most of them are). Overall, I wasn't all that impressed with the skill names. Her clothing and head skins had better names. Jerokhna, Supreme Overlord of the Deathseekers (talk) 04:12, October 14, 2012 (UTC)
Never heard "The Stare" used as you mentioned,  no objection, Why change it to pony if it wasn't a reference, the next three are quotes, but it's debatable.74.215.61.57 01:27, January 6, 2013 (UTC)

Badass Ranks

Does anyone know if bonus stats from Badass Ranks affect Death-Trap? Specifically Melee and Elemental Damage?

glitch

For some reason, when I shot the piano at Moxxii's place and it started playing music, I started getting anarchy stacks for reloads. I guess I initiated combat with it or something. Ilovefuzzykittens (talk) 14:02, October 10, 2012 (UTC)

Quotes

Seeing that I am unable to actually help edit the page, I decided to have a little section for possible adding on the main page. I've found a few quotes that were interesting and I wanted to share with the community. Yes, these quotes are said in game.
  • While using Anarchy, 100+ stacks: "Don't accidentally reload, don't accidentally reload!" Dnguyen1319 (talk) 16:37, October 10, 2012 (UTC)
  • Maxed Anarchy: "I-I think my reload button is broken."
  • Gain anarchy stack: "Accuracy can suck it!"
  • Run over enemy w/ vehicle: "Eew groos, it smells like piss and nachos!"

I'll add what I can find as well.

  • Losing all stacks: "Son of a socket wrench!" 70.174.185.19 05:47, December 5, 2012 (UTC)

NoirTheSable (talk) 05:49, December 5, 2012 (UTC)

Incorrect. The "piss and nachos" quote plays when she's slagged, the 'broken reload button' quote plays when she has at least 150 stacks (as i can see). Yumil Recian (talk) 20:58, January 29, 2013 (UTC)

dischord

i admit im curious to see how dischord's activate on premature reload and constantly lose stacks gets along w/ anarchy's lose all stacks on premature reload.   Dr. F    Chemicalweapon   Wordpress shovel   Boston globe bullhorn  07:05, October 11, 2012 (UTC)

It works by overiding the normal reload effect. Instead of lossing it all at once by reloading prematurely( which if you flip weapons quickly before it is done, will stop it ) you gain the discord mark and begin to loose stacks at a slower rate. -Mr B

Worth the risk?

I've been wondering if adding so many My Little Pony references is really worth the risk of losing a lot of sales? "Haters" are fairly known for being very over-reactive when it comes to even the tiniest thing that includes pony-related content. I mean, I've had friends who have thrown away their game or demanded a refund as soon as they found out. What I'm saying is that a brony wouldn't pay 60 bucks (hehe) for some text on a screen related to what they like, but many haters wouldn't think twice about getting rid of the game, or not buying it at all, just because of that one little detail. Personally I say they are over-reacting, but being a brony myself, my vote probably wouldn't count.

What do you think about all this? Is it really worth it? Jokkepokke (talk) 03:52, October 13, 2012 (UTC)

I honestly think that people who would throw out an otherwise good game to them that they invested $60 in should honestly go bugger off. If you know anyone that could honestly be offended by some bytes of text, tell them that I would rather not play Borderlands 2 with them. I guess I'm just bigoted against bigots, but I mean, if you go to the Borderlands 2 pop culture references, you would see tons of references for things that are not MLP. You don't see some sort of movement against any of these other references, right?

I can't speak for any sort of economic issue for Gearbox -- most likely it won't create any dent at all. But as a social issue, those people who would actually boycott Gearbox for a few lines of text should "grow the fuck up."

Cheers. MyDreamName (talk) 04:01, October 13, 2012 (UTC)

I know, I know... MLP has aparently become a very hot topic for discussion the last half year, but to me it just seems like people are coming up with bad, completely redundant excuses for talking shit about others. I think that the fact that it's a kid's show has absolutely nothing to do with all the raging fires started the last few months on YouTube, 4chan, ponibooru etc. It's just people being dicks.
As for the "economic issue", I personally think the game will recieve a lot of controversy because of this. Some people WILL find reasons to hate on it, and then the rest will just jump on the bandwagon... Give it a few months or so, and I believe BL2 will be up for some heavy debate. Just look at what happened to Adventure Quest. They added a quest which directly referenced MLP by "rewriting" the Cupcake song and allowing players to purchase "shadowponies" as pets, and they lost thousands of players the day the quest was released.
People are way too hard on these things, and it'll only get negative consequences >.< Jokkepokke (talk) 04:31, October 13, 2012 (UTC)

Deathtrap changing appearances based on skill tree?

Just tossing this out there, but has anyone else noticed how Deathtrap's physical appearance changed based on the amount of points spent in each of the trees? The BFF tree gives him additional armor plating, the Big Little Trouble tree gives him six blade wings, and the Ordered Chaos gives him bandit-esque spikes. Furlock (talk) 23:54, October 13, 2012 (UTC)

I did, and I must say I'm digging his blade wings. He looks sick! Abyss Raider (talk) 00:39, October 14, 2012 (UTC)

I've got nothing in Ordered Chaos, but my Deathtrap still has the spikes on his arms, I think it's just how many skillpoints he has put into him Joshua Grahamcracker (talk) 12:05, October 15, 2012 (UTC)

In Ordered Chaos, Deathtrap gain claws on his right hand (the one with three fingers and a thumb), A pair of chest blades, and several other ones over his body, This is directly from the Robot Rampage power Mr B Dead (talk) 12:13, October 15, 2012 (UTC)

Anarchy Quote "Tiers"?

I've noticed that Gaige's many Anarchy stacking quotes seem to be divided into several tiers, based on how many stacks she has at the time. She starts out with some of the calmer quotes, becomes more excited as she progresses, and when approaching maximum stacks she goes into a complete god complex screaming every line.

It might be interesting to figure out where these tiers begin and end, and divide her quote list accordingly. Personally, I think the Anarchy quotes are the most fun part of the character. AkuTenshiiZero (talk) 19:42, October 14, 2012 (UTC)

Ordered Chaos: artificially harder/under-supported?

As far as I can find in terms of class mods it would seem that Ordered Chaos is undersupported. I mean just count: 4 mods types that can have bonuses to skills in that tree.

Airborne Anachist

Speedy Jill of All Trades

Paranoid/Speedy Punk

Slayer of Terramorohous (Which only has one skill in there)

If I look at the other classes to see how they balance mods across the board: I see each tree is supported by five mods each if not more.

So what this just them making it punisihingly hard a tree or just an oversight?

Mr B Dead (talk) 12:21, October 15, 2012 (UTC)

Alcohol for an underaged girl!?

In the quest "Clan Wars: Wakey Wakey" Gaige also get alcohol from Moxxi... How can Moxxi sell her alcohol!? Isn't Gearbox ashamed!? Where are the morals? Of course I am not serious, but I want to know, what you guys think about this.

Leafless (talk) 17:35, October 19, 2012 (UTC)

Three thing:

1- Do we know the legal age in the Borderlands universe?

2- Do we know Gaige's exact age?

3- If yes to the first two then would you make the same arguments for Zero seeing we know absolutely nothing about his age either?

Mr B Dead (talk) 17:45, October 19, 2012 (UTC)

1- Well...Eden 5 seems to be close to earth (except for high schoolers, who let their cheating rivals explode and cut off their own arms).
2- We do know, that Gaige is a high schooler and that she is a genius, so she may even have skipped some classes.
3- Zer0 isn't human, so we don't know, about the life cycle of his species (at least we do know, that he can get drunk, which leaves out the possibility of him being a synthetic creation). I just wonder how he can actually drink at all.Leafless (talk) 18:23, October 19, 2012 (UTC)
(The Evil Dr. F's note - digiustruct membrane ~ mouth area?)
A few things to consider:
A) We don't know what year of high school Gaige was in during the recordings. It's possible she was a senior, and therefore probably 18 or close.
B) We don't know how long between Gaige leaving home and starting her adventure on Pandora. Given that she is skilled enough with various types of gun (Anarchy notwithstanding), I would guess she probably practiced for awhile before setting out into real combat. She mentions Handsome Jack taking over Pandora in her ECHO logs. From that we can assume she has spent, at most, five years on Pandora prior to BL2.
Ba) To clarify, this means she was in school during the events of BL1. Jack began his occupation of Pandora directly after BL1. This means that Gaige could have recorded her logs within weeks or months after BL1, giving her up to five years between the recordings and BL2. In other words, she could even have been a freshman and the timeline STILL allows for her to be 18 by the beginning of BL2.
C) Moxxi gives her booze. Tannis gives the "standing offer". Just sayin'... AkuTenshiiZero (talk) 15:59, October 21, 2012 (UTC)

growing up in the Philipines, where the age of imbibage is old enough to carry the money to pay for it, i may not be the best arbiter here. i assume that she is fresh off the bus as her skill trees are based on spray and pray shooting styles. that said your assumptions above help me greatly to deal w/ the idea of playing a child on a killing spree. tyvm.   Dr. F    Chemicalweapon   Wordpress shovel   Boston globe bullhorn  16:22, October 21, 2012 (UTC)

Gaige records those Echo Logs while still being in highschool...since she is unnerved by the fact that her living rival Marcy knows nothing about Pandora, its occupation by Hyperion and Handsome Jack.Leafless (talk) 18:48, October 21, 2012 (UTC)

Slightly Overpowered Synergy?

I'm working through the levels rediculously fast. I have Anarchy, 5 points of cooking up trouble, 5 points of Blood soaked shields & currently 4 points of Preshrunk Cyperpunk. I have a relic for shield increase, and a purple Pangolin shield giving me over 2k shields. I also have a Jacobs shotgun with 2 (3 but reduced to 2 with Smaller Lighter Faster) that expends both bullets per shot and 1.2 reload speed (unsure if this includes smaller lighter faster) and hits for 175x14.

This leaves me with full clip all the time so 2% health regen perminantly and 2k shield that regens to full on a kill, and every shot is a Kill+reload so I'm stacking up anarchy really fast.

I was playing it in a 4-man group (I was hosting so they joined after I had 300 stacks) and it was quite rediculous, I would charge everywhere, run right up to badasses and hit them for over 5k, always on almost full shield and the 5% ov health lost per kill was regened by the cooking up trouble skill. Even on bosses it was laughable, if I started to get low on shield I looked for an add and kill it for a recharge. The other 3 members were struggling to keep up.

I also have homing slag transfusion mirv. I think the class is very unbalanced.

If you follow the build "Blood Soaked Maiden" (made by me, just look in the build section) all the way up to the equipment, then you will see what unbalanced means. You don't even need to aim anymore (aiming has no sense at this point anyway) and Gaige will yell at you for breaking the games mechanics.Leafless (talk) 19:07, October 27, 2012 (UTC)

...and then apply a delicious coating of 'Close Enough' on top of that. This girl is definitely insane. But hey. It's actually quite refreshing to totally break the game mechanics. ^^ Ocinos (talk) 23:10, November 20, 2012 (UTC)

One Two Boom - Unreal Tournament Reference?

Does anyone else see the similarity between the "shoot the energy orb for massive damage" and the infamous Shock Combo in the Unreal Tournament games? Or am I just reading too far into it? Ravinoff (talk) 18:42, October 27, 2012 (UTC)

That's what I thought too. Some of her kill quotes are references to Unreal Tournament (Monster Kill, for example) so I think the ability was inspired by it and the reference intentional. Ilovefuzzykittens (talk) 00:57, October 30, 2012 (UTC)

It's a reference, yes. Also it's AWESOME. Yumil Recian (talk) 21:01, January 29, 2013 (UTC)

Gaige's Skills

It should also be noted that the skills "Strength of Five Gorillas" comes from season 1 Ep. 1 of Sealab 2021 (in which the crew discusses the idea of becomming robots; "You'd have metal teeth and the strength of five gorillas!") as well as "Wires Don't Talk" comes from another episode from the first season (in which Dr. Quinn is hacking into an underwater cable network while grumbling which causes idiotic Stomy to say "Be the wire...Shhhhh...wires don't talk."

Gaige Trivia References

I'm going through Gaige's Deathtrap lines at the moment and am finding even more pop culture references from our walking allegory girl.

Domu Aragato suckers!
The original phrase is Domu Aragato Mr Roboto. Probably thrown in to link to Deathtrap.

By my command.
not sure what this one is, but sounds vaguely familiar.

Exterminate
Daleks, obviously.

To hell with the first law!
Asimov's 3 laws of robotics (a robot shall do no harm) and well, Deathtrap is the very personification of robot doing harm!

Super Robot Violence Funtime!
sounds like a parody of a certain kind of children's cartoon.

Number 5 Alive!
Johnny 5 from Short Circuit.

Platu Garada Nikto!
The phrase used to deactivate the robot bodyguard Gort.

I'm not very good with pop culture references, so feel free to embelish on this research if you add it to the main Gaige page.
Wow, unintentional rhyme!

Tilarta (talk) 13:05, January 20, 2013 (UTC)

The original phrase is 'Klaatu barada nikto' according to http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0043456/trivia?tab=tr&item=tr0714728 . Haven't heard Gaige saying this phrase or simply didn't notice so I can't comment on whether you misheard it or they got it wrong.

'By my command' could simply be the reverse of the generic 'By your command' / 'Your wish is my command'.

The phrase is actually 'Domo Arigato Mr. Roboto' which simply means 'Thank you Mr. Roboto' in japanese. It's quite generic and ~could~ also hint at the typical school girl and or mecha setting in japanese animation. Or not. Who knows. Maybe they even planned to stick school girls on Badassasaurus. Since there is an anime called 'Girls and Panzer' which does exactly that I wouldn't be surprised at all.

Soloing Raid Bosses

I'm looking for tips on how to solo the raid bosses - without simply relying on Bee/CC.

Ocinos (talk) 22:51, January 29, 2013 (UTC)

Pete

Main problem is ammunition. Focus on as much damage per hit as possible. Build up anarchy stacks fast, then hit him hard. Exploit the map (I like to use the 'house' above the left Hyperion-Ammo-Dispenser - first grenade jump on the surrounding wall, then jump against the wall and onto the house's platform), lure him on the platform, then try to position yourself as close as possible to him without him starting to melee. Avoid his nova-DoT by going out of sight in time. (Takes about quarter an hour without legendary items.)

Useful items:

  • Elephant Gun from Hammerlock DLC (criticals in stage 2)
  • Orphan Maker from Scarlett-DLC
  • Rex from Hammerlock-DLC
  • a shock sniper rifle (stage1, instead of Elephant Gun)
  • a shock launcher (use only if you have sufficient distance!)
  • an ammunition relic (aim for +pistol / + smg)

(Btw. a 400 stack critical with the Elephant Guns goes for 1.2 million damage. But it's not a reliable source of damage. ;) )
