Effective use of Eridian weapons.

I've been collecting and weeding out various Eridian weapons for some time now, and have come accross a viable way to use them. Folks probably already know this, but I expect the Eridians used their guns much in the same way pirates used Flintlocks. They had several and they would fire one, and switch to the next. If you get say 4 Blasters or Ball Blasters, you can equip them all, and switch between them. By the time you get back to the first one, it will be fully recharged allowing for a continuous barrage of shots.

ZoeyMithra 15:53, April 6, 2010 (UTC)

I noticed the same thing, but you can actually use the same weapon and the refill isn't based on time. Fully deplete the charge on a weapon, go to your inventory, swap a weapon into the Eridian weapon slot, then swap the original Eridian weapon back into the slot. When you exit out of the inventory screen, your weapon will have about 1/3 - 2/3 charge back. Can anyone else confirm this? Obviously, this can be used to great effect in single player games and not so much in multi-player games.

Atelophobic 03:20, June 23, 2010 (UTC)

I've found that stacking different effects is very effective. Fire a few Glob shots, flare, and a lightning and stack all the damage over time effects. Of course some are more effective them others and most of the time I don't need to stack, I can let the damage over time effect of one weapon take out maybe half their health.

Scope differences.

I have two identical Eridian Lightnings, the only difference is the scope. One has a 6 scope, the other a 5. The scope 6 model doesn't have an improved zoom, except that the zoom occurs faster by like .1 or .2 seconds. ZoeyMithra 00:18, April 13, 2010 (UTC)

I just acquired a second Eridian Lightning from Crawermax recently, and decided to see what the difference between the two is (as best as I can). The first is a 11-110 with a Sight type 2, the second one is a 1-110 with a Sight Type 6 (hyphenated the numbers for ease of reading). I also enlisted the aid of a few other weapons for comparison on zooms, a GGN490 Hard Volcano Sniper Rifle(1.0x weapon zoom listed on card), CRD Desert Stomper Assault Rifle(1.4x weapon zoom listed on card), and a Rocket Launcher with "no scope" (Its the tiny ring you focus through; 1.9x weapon zoom listed on card). First and foremost, each weapons "zoom" rate is vastly different, as the Sniper Rifle had the best zoom at 1.0, second best was the Assault Rifle then it was the Rocket Launcher (went to T-Bone Junction's Marcus Munitions store, put my characters butt against the counter North of the actual vending machine, then centered on the pictures plaque, that reads "Marcus IV" facing South, which is unreadable at that distance while standing Idle, no zooming of any kind. Proceeded to take each weapon leaving my sight in the exact same spot and hit the Zoom button then checked to see how clear the plaque's lettering was and marked each zoom by placing a piece of tape on the right border of the picture)

That being said, both the Type 2 and the Type 6 had exactly the same zoom that I could discern, and is equivalent to the Rocket Launchers "No Scope" 1.9x zoom. I also decided just now (literally as I was typing this entry) to use my other Eridian Weapons (SplatGun/Cannon Sight3, Thunder Stom Sight1) and they have identical zoom rates to the 2 and 6. The only discernable difference I could ascertain from the two Scope Sights was the coloring inside of the scope while zoomed. Type2 had like a brighter bluish-purple tint on the tubing, and the center line was a slightly brighter variant of the coloring found on the tubing. Type6 had a darker reddish-purple (more red then purple) on the inside of the tubing with the center line being a brighter purple color. Now I do not trust my TV's color as far as I can throw it, since its a rather old flat screen box tv (standard definition, had it since like Dec of 2000) but I can trust that the coloring is the only discernable differences between the two scopes, anything outside of that, I'd probably have to mine code. I'll keep my eyes out for Sight Type 4 and 5 as those are the only two I have not compared.
Also, Sight 3 appears to aim Down and to the Right but ammo discharged fire in a straight line not down the scope, making it extremely disorienting to aim properly, if its a long range "Safe" shot, pre-aim with a Sniper Rifle (like, you would for Longbow Grenades) then switch to the Eridian weaponto fire. 05:41, October 18, 2010 (UTC)Derak_Necron

Limitations: Preliminary experimentation with Willowtree has revealed some parts limitations. Example: Only the Lightning can have Sight5. The Thunder Storm can only have Sight1. (More to follow) -- MeMadeIt 19:18, April 17, 2010 (UTC)

Not sure if people know about this, but Eridian weapons are homing, and the homing effect seems to target lock accross Eridian weapon switches. IE if you lock a target on Sniper, and switch to blaster, the blaster shots will home to the same target. Locking seems to be accomplished with a zoomed hit. Still working on this. Checking Eridian clip size with debug.

There is a MUCH more convenient way of checking on Eridian weapon ammo capacity, recharge delay (both the overheat delay which is when you've emptied the ammo, and the delay after you simply stop firing before running the clip dry), and recharge rate: make a hotkey that displays the debug info. The relevant debug info command is: dbm_ToggleShowDebug Eno Khaon 06:32, November 6, 2009 (UTC)

Eridian Gun Level

I have a level 49 Wave Blaster, so im not sure what that should be put in Level49waveblaster.jpg

Just wanted to confirm that I have one too. I assume it's the same as the Eridian Blaster? Don't have one to compare right now.--Wang Foolio 21:44, December 9, 2009 (UTC)

Level requirements

All my Eridian weapons on my xbox drop from 19 to 17 and 28 to 26 level requirements while they're equipped but return to normal when unequipped......

Unfinished feature. You only get the real level requirement when it's unequipped. --Lagged 01:33, February 8, 2010 (UTC)
Weapon proficiencies were supposed to reduce level requirement. The feature was eventually scrapped for box release, but the numbers still show up even though they don't matter. --Nagamarky 11:32, February 8, 2010 (UTC)

Recharge rates, continued

On the Eridian Lightning page, there are two level 46 versions, the 1001 and the 1110, which have 481 and 520 damage, respectively. At least with my Thunder Storms, the higher damage gun had a smaller effect magazine capacity. Anyone else seen something to this effect? --Lagged 06:49, November 6, 2009 (UTC)

Likely coincidence; a higher damage version can also have a large capacity. Use the debug display to check capacity (and recharge values) for Eridian weapons so we can stop with the guessing games. Also, are those guns actually level 46, or did some chuckleheads take screenshots with the weapons equipped so their proficiency was reducing the req level on level 49 weapons? -- Eno Khaon 19:24, November 6, 2009 (UTC)
You've figured out a lot more than I have on these things. I've actually got level 46 guns, but they only appear that way if thrown on the ground. Oddly, the console marks them as level 48 guns, and when I equip it, it shows up as level 43.

Inventory bouncing

When you have multiple Eridian guns in your inventory and start selling other things, the Eridians seem to bounce around, like the result of an unstable sort. This might suggest that their name modifiers are actually NULL, since my Lightnings were swapping with my Thunder Storms and Cannons. This also unfortunately suggests that the visible name is completely unrelated to the gun's stock, scope, or damage. Does anyone else see this behavior? I don't think I've seen this with the other guns. --Lagged 18:08, November 6, 2009 (UTC)

Most noticeable with Eridian weapons, but it has happened to me numerous times with all weapons.--LeesusFreak 20:40, November 17, 2009 (UTC)

This happens to me a lot with Equalizers and Defilers (Yellow Revolvers)

This is because their parts have the same rarity. Since guns are sorted by rarity, they are allocated their place in your inventory as one whole bunch of guns, which are then shuffled around at random because it doesn't matter. --Nagamarky 11:32, February 8, 2010 (UTC)

You likely found the unfinished(?) Eridian guns, like the Acid Storm or the Fire Storm. They don't drop in-game, but might for the DLC. --Lagged 19:36, November 17, 2009 (UTC)
I can confirm this. And I can also confirm that all the unreleased Eridian Weapons are rather useless. ··· Danny Pew Pew <span style="color:#990000;font:100 8pt  21 December 2009 (UTC)

Functionality as a treasure finder

Didn't see anything about this in the discussion. I checked to see if Eridian weapons truly could help you find weapon caches, it doesn't seem to work. The magazine does light up whenever I point the gun in any of the cardinal directions, however, so that seems much more likely to me. I'm running this on an Xbox 360, fully patched, offline. I only go online to download patches and DLC. 17:42, December 27, 2009 (UTC)

After testing these weapons for over an hour I can say that they only point at the cardinal directions and occasionally the NW ect. directions. -- TOXICMOOSEDOG13
Because I'm lazy to post on gbx forums, I'll do it here. I've just tested all six Eridian magazines on the Lightning, in Rust Commons East and New Haven. Cardinal directions don't work, chest-detection doesn't work. --Nagamarky 09:26, January 2, 2010 (UTC)

doesnt it just change colour at points at 90 degrees from each other? Roboticsuperman 17:59, January 3, 2010 (UTC)

Yes, some have reported that it lights up in the cardinal directions, i.e. north south east west or at most a slight deviation from them --Nagamarky 18:20, January 3, 2010 (UTC)
Have you tested the various types of Eridian weapons? It's quite possible that they have different hidden attributes. ··· Danny Pew Pew <span style="color:#666666;font:100 8pt  8 January 2010 (UTC)
Haven't bothered to, but will get down to it sooner or later. --Nagamarky 18:39, January 8, 2010 (UTC)

Could it be pointing to the 4 cardinal directions and the NW location being the vault?--Kylis 20:53, January 14, 2010 (UTC)

Class skills

mmm... do the individual weapons get treated like their respected weapon types (IE: lighting cannons benefit from the berserker's rocket launcher skills, thunderstorm benefits from soldiers scattershot) or are they all treated as their own weapons category? (little confused since hunters treat pistols and revolvers the same way, wondered if it was like that) Also, first eridian lighting i found always seems to deal continuous shock damage (elemental proc), even though they do not specify shock element can i assume that lilith's (and class mods as well) increase the eridian weapon's damage? Skyroskus 09:58, January 10, 2010 (UTC)

Eridian weapons have their own proficiency and therefore their own 'type'. Mordecai's sniper buffs and roland shotgun/assault rifle buffs and so on do not affect them. However, skills that affect all weapons such as Lilith's 'high velocity' will affect them. Also, I think it is a reasonable assumption that Lilith's tempest mod will affect any lightning damage eridian weapons, although some (eridian blasters in particular) seem to not deal lightning damage.

Steel crab 15:45, January 16, 2010 (UTC)

Sight 6

Someone just posted that sight 6 has no zoom; can anyone else confirm this? I don't have any guns with that scope left, but I do recall it zooming in. --Lagged 23:28, January 17, 2010 (UTC)

They all seem to have a zoom, although the zoom seems to be low my guess would be roughly 1.0-1.5. None of them have a scope. You can have zoom without a scope.

Speculation in the article

I have tested this theory, and yes, on the Xbox 360 version of Borderlands, Eridian weapons will point in the compass direction of a weapon chest from the nearest New-U station. For instance, if there is a weapon chest north of a New-U station, pointing the weapon north will make the magazine turn red. Uncle Jimbo13 03:33, January 22, 2010 (UTC)

I removed this from the article and put it in here. Refers to this. Kids need to learn how to write in a wiki ... -- Cocofang 13:17, January 27, 2010 (UTC)

Chest or no chest they point in the North, South, East, West directions.

It does not point to chests... The game map is built like a cube, the faces of the squares making the cube join at the North, South, East, West area, and not snugly they have gaps in between them. The Eridian magazine's distorts the image of the map, but when it encounters the area where the squares meet, it starts to reflect empty space, which it replaces with an image of the magazine itself, and thus saturates itself into a bright pink colour.

The Eridian Sniper Rifle - does it shoot twice?

I just got an Eridian Lightning while farming, and have reason to suspect that it shoots twice in a row, very quickly. Everyone knows the Jakobs gas container - looking things, right? The ones that if you shoot 6 or 7 times, they explode? Well, if you shoot them with ANY weapon (even Rocket Launchers), each bullet counts as one hit against it, and you can tell how many bullets you've hit it by the number of shots. After you shoot it thrice, a stream of yellowing gas begins to leak from it. Five times, and a second yellowish leak. Sixth time, a third, and you know that one more bullet will make this thing explode.

However.. When you shoot it with the Eridian Lightning, 1 bullet damages it but makes no Yellowish leak.(2/7 destroyed). A second shot gives it one yellowish leak (4/7 destroyed, just passed 3/7 which is where first leak occurs. 5/7 and 6/7 are the next ones). Then, a third shot produces TWO leaks (6/7 destroyed, simultaneously passed 5/7 while reaching 6/7, causing 2). This all leads me to believe that it shoots two close bullets that fly side by side to reach a target.

To recap: a gas container has 7 health, and it loses one health per every bullet that hits it, no matter what type of projectile (even elemental and rockets hit only once). When it has 4 health remaining, a gas leak springs, and another at 2 and one last at 1. When shot with the Eridian Lightning, it removes two health from it at once, which cannot happen normally because each bullet only does one damage to it. The only possible explanation here is that either the ELightning shoots 2 bullets, or that this is a glitch. Thoughts? Beetle179 20:47, February 17, 2010 (UTC)

The thing is that Eridian Sniper Rifle does not shoot 2 projectiles at once, but bears an always proccing Shock element, and when you shoot smth it delivers 2 hits - with "projectile" and Shock effect.Sinael 15:31, March 4, 2010 (UTC)

An orange (light orange exactly) mega cannon dropped for me a few days ago. Happened in Knoxx's Armory and while I was solo on my 61 Siren.

I've heard rumors of Purple Eridian weapons, as within the new DLC, but I've yet to come across any actual proof. Can someone confirm or disprove? I had my doubts of Gold Eridians until I came to this page and saw the picture. I've never seen any of the "New" eridian weapons drop from Crawmerax though, and I've killed him a good 20 times.

I also have a Eridian Mega Cannon (orange), however I didn't get it from Crawmerax, it happened to drop from a Crimson Lance soldier in the arena place (Can't remember the name). Haven't seen any purple Eridian weapons though.

Look what I found.

Eridian Weaponry Dropped by Drifters?

I don't belive I saw it anywhere in the article so I added that Eridian weapons can be dropped by Drifters. I say this because I have aquired a Flaregun from a Drifter and I do not belive it is a glitch. Has anyone else found Eridian weaponry from a Drifter?

Yep, on multiple occasions even. All the new Eridian weapons in the DLC can drop from Drifters. LTK 70 20:29, July 25, 2010 (UTC)

Blue Eridian Blaster Found

Ok, I know you may all think I am crazy, or am a modder putting you on, but I have found a legitimate Blue Eridian Blaster in a Crimson Lance Chest, which also contained the Crimson Shorty. It was, strangly, considerably weaker than a normal Eridan Blaster (Level 58, 135 damage, same RoF and Acc. as a normal blaster. I was just wondering if anyone else has come across one of these before, and why is it there, because I know that Eridians only come in Green, save for the Mega Cannon, which is orange. Schorcher3 04:16, June 15, 2010 (UTC)

I have actually found a blue rarity eridian fireball. no idea why it was blue. i think i got it from a lance pyro.

Affecting the Destroyer

I disagree with the notes page. On xbox 360, the 11001 Lightning, (The Eridian Shotgun, I dont have time to get its name) aimed at the destroyers eye with all tentacles down, did a great mass of damage. I was standing behind the left pillar in front of it and shot it. That gives you an idea of how far away it was. HOWEVER, the other Eridian weapons in my arsenal did nothing.

Weapon prof of 50

Has anyone got there eridian weapon prof to 50 and if so does it make using eridian weapons worth wild? Such as can you have a gun that charges in seconds? Elite~Anarchist 14:21, July 3, 2010 (UTC)

Me. No. No. --Nagamarky 14:41, July 3, 2010 (UTC)
me. sorta. basically.
Yes. However despite the increased cooldown rate, firing a weapon at it's maximum rate will still empty it in the same amount of time. Eridians can be used somewhat effectively if you equip more than one and swap between them as you empty them. A Soldier with maxxed Overload and a good Heavy Gunner Mod (preferably with +% Weapon Damage) has huge magazines and can use Eridians even in extended firefights. Eridian Rifle outside Secret Armory DLC

Some time ago I was in a co-op game doing the storyline mission, around level 30, when the other player found an Eridian weapon, the Eridian Rifle. I was surprised I hadn't seen this gun before, because I was hoarding Eridian weapons compulsively on that character. I also hadn't done any missions in the third DLC, which is why I didn't know about it. So apparently the Eridian Rifle is obtainable outside the third DLC. Has anyone come across the other new Eridian weapons in the main game?

Dump from Notes section

Okay, so it's not a dump, but the notes section contained some strange things:

  • Increased Reload Speed affects the cooldown rate of Eridians
  • The Eridian Lightning has 100% accuracy when scoped (like the Jakobs Bessie)

Can anyone confirm or deny these? Also, I was wondering whether Lilith's Phoenix skill can save ammo for Eridian weapons. Wannas 22:49, September 27, 2010 (UTC)

It seems unlikely that increased reload speed affects cooldown, although high level proficiencies can. It also seems. It seems likely that Lilith's Phoenix skill can save ammo. Not sure about your second bullet point. 03:59, January 20, 2011 (UTC)

Second point is true. 100% accuracy when scoped. Also, it is a direct contact weapon, which means there is no lag between the time you pull the trigger and when the electric arc reaches the target. As far as how reload speed affects Eridian weapons, I'm not sure, but I think they are affected by team ammo regen and team magazine size mods and skills.GT: ConceitedJarrad XBOX360 09:11, January 26, 2011 (UTC)

Intrinsic reload speed is a function of the Eridian weapon's stock, and specifies the speed with which you can equip the weapon. However, mods or skills that increase reload speed do not appear to affect this speed further. I gave a Siren (with no reload speed buffs) and a Hunter (with 9/5 Fast Hands, courtesy of a Survivor COM without the Team reload skill buff) equivalent weapons, and had them perform in a quick-draw competition: there was no difference in the two characters' equip speeds. Daemmerung 00:58, February 27, 2011 (UTC)

Im using the black guy and if you use Support Gunner Class mods, they definitly increase how fast the eridian weapons cooldown.

Finding Eridian Weapons

Now, bear in mind that I have only farmed this place 4 times, so far I have found 2 different Eridian weapons at this chest. Right after I checked on T.K. for Scooter, I opened that red weapons chest behind his house and got first an Eridian cannon, and then on my third try, a Thunder Storm. I was wondering if someone else could check this out and see if they get a few Eridian weapons from this chest, and it is not just a freak accident. Herky15 23:39, December 25, 2010 (UTC)

  • Edit: I have now found 3 total Eridian weapons. 3 for 6 or 7 I believe. My character is only level 23, so they are all lower level weapons. But this seems to be a hot spot for Eridian spawns.Herky15 00:35, December 26, 2010 (UTC)

Small Page Improvement

I made a small change to the "Eridian Magazine" section. I rephrased a couple awkward sentences, but more importantly I copied the Magazine pictures from one of the tables in an earlier section and inserted them into the Magazine Table. This should make magazine lookup a little easier (no need to scroll up to see which magazine is which, then back down to actually look up the stats). LordAethar 03:03, March 3, 2011 (UTC)

Movement speed with equppied eridian weapon
