Strategy[]
What appears to be Handsome Jack is actually 5H4D0W-TP, and now he has the H-Source thanks to the Vault Hunters. The path that appears leads to 5H4D0W-TP's throne room, where he is tempting Claptrap's Consciousness to allow him to integrate and dominate the universe. When Claptrap refuses, 5H4D0W-TP taps into the H-Source's power and goes on a rampage. The resultant boss fight puts a heavy emphasis of evasion through the massive number of jump pads and reusable ammo digistruction containers, all while avoiding the dark parts of the arena and its resultant Incendiary damage on contact. Weapons that trade accuracy for power will often have an advantage here, especially Corrosive and Shock ones. Up to 2 Bugs spawn at a time, providing a very easy source of second winds.
5H4D0W-TP first creates a giant robot dubbed ECLIPSE, which has the following attacks:
- Fires 3-4 volleys of explosive beams from its arms, dealing heavy damage. Telegraphed by their tips glowing white.
- Fires a number of homing orbs that cause extreme Shock damage on hit. The orbs can be shot and destroyed at range.
- Fires a number of missiles from two shoulder-mounted pods. The orbs can be shot and destroyed at range.
- In co-op, it will additionally fire multiple individual missiles that track each Vault Hunter with a much thicker crimson tracer.
- Two arm-mounted turrets constantly fire slow moving energy blasts.
- Stomps targets in melee range.
ECLIPSE is an incredibly armored target with an extremely durable shield, so the fight would usually last a while. The critical hit locations are particularly difficult to reach, as the two behind it can only be effectively exploited in co-op, and the tiny slot where 5H4D0W-TP resides in is often too high to reach. Surprisingly, ECLIPSE is vulnerable to gravity slams, which can always forcibly stagger it and interrupt its attacks, buying a slightly larger window of opportunity.
After ECLIPSE is destroyed, 5H4D0W-TP creates EOS (designed after Helios Station) and continues his onslaught with these attacks:
- Opens its eye to either fire a number of blue projectiles (yellow after the second recharge phase) or a massive purple laser. The projectiles may explode or spawn minor enemies.
- Executing either of these attacks will force 5H4D0W-TP to unveil its eye, exposing EOS' only critical hit location until shortly after the attack concludes.
- Turrets occasionally fire slow energy blasts or missiles.
While EOS is weaker in terms of durability, it will despawn at 75% and 50% health to fully recharge its shield. During the interlude, Viruses and Glitches (including Badass Glitches) will constantly spawn, being replaced shortly after defeat by more. Projections of 5H4D0W-TP, Lilith, Dr. Zed, and Tannis will appear to demoralize the Vault Hunters. Most enemies will typically despawn as soon as EOS returns.
Although the fights are daunting, specific character builds can help to ease the difficulty:
- Gladiators built around Maelstrom can rapidly accumulate stacks with shock weapons, which does boost all elemental weapons, including corrosive ones. Elemental Barrage and Storm Weaving can aid in negating ammo consumption. Hail variants do help with ECLIPSE considering their arching trajectory and critical damage bonus. Kinetic Aspis can be used to tank various attacks while maintaining suppressive fire.
- Fragtraps speced into explosive builds through Sapper Class Mods and One Last Thing can take advantage of Flakker's splash damage on the second-to-last shot and rip large chunks of both bosses, although careful positioning is required for the Flakker's explosions to hit EOS. The likes of You're... GOING TO LOVE ME!! and Killbot will greatly aid survivability through large bursts of healing.
Once EOS is finally defeated, 5H4D0W-TP will appear on its throne, lying on its back, the H-Source ready to be plucked out. 5H4D0W-TP will blow a raspberry and generate a large pool of good loot, including Moonstone, glitch and purple items. After the main bulk of the loot has dropped, a final legendary item is guaranteed to spawn, accompanied by another raspberry sound.
After the legendary item is dropped, the H-Source has to be returned to Handsome Jack. The mission is completed when the DLC's ending cutscene is played.
