Stop-Gap is a legendary shield in Borderlands 3 manufactured by Hyperion. It is obtained randomly from any suitable loot source, but has an increased chance to drop from El Dragón Jr. located in Jakobs Estate on Eden-6.

Special Effects[]

The process is called "living". – When depleted, grants immunity to damage for 5 seconds. Always has a recharge delay of 5.5 seconds or longer, and must fully recharge between activations.

Usage & Description[]

The Stop-Gap is a defense-oriented shield designed to give a five-second opportunity to escape from danger, or trigger skills that would be effective during the invincibility, such as health regeneration skills. Given that the shield has a long recharge delay and cooldown for its invincibility, the character can find themselves completely vulnerable if they are unable to get to cover after the immunity ends.

With the combination of skills or items that speed up shield regeneration or grant additional invulnerability, Stop-Gap can essentially render the character invulnerable.

Notes[]

  • The effect does not trigger if the character is downed by the same attack that breaks their shield, making this significantly less useful when paired with the Deathless artifact or skills which reduce maximum health.
  • The "On Action Skill Start - Activate any effects that trigger on shield break or fill." Anointment combined with action skills with a short recharge such as FL4K's Rakk Attack! or Zane's MNTIS Shoulder Cannon allows the character to become practically invulnerable. However, until the invincibility ends, the effect cannot be applied, and the duration is not reset. To achieve extended invincibility, action skill activation must be timed to chain them.

Trivia[]

  • The flavor text is a quote from Terry Pratchett's novel The Last Continent, where it is the response given by the personification of Death upon being asked if it's true that a person's life flashes before their eyes before they die, as in, their entire life is the flash before death.
