Stinger is a legendary shield in Borderlands 3 manufactured by Pangolin. It can only be obtained from Anathema the Relentless in the Takedown at the Guardian Breach.

Special Effects[]

They don't let you use that no more. – Melee damage is increased by 50% when full. When depleted, a nova is triggered that deals melee damage of the element the shield resists. Returns damage to enemies that melee the character while shielded.

Usage & Description[]

Because the Stinger receives the damage increases of melee weapons, the Stinger has the potential to create novas that are far stronger then any other shield in the game. The Stinger is best used in melee builds so that it can receive as many buffs to its damage as possible.

The Stinger can also be used on builds not focused on melee, as it deals significantly increased damage with the Groundbreaker Guardian reward.

Notes[]

  • The Stinger's nova attacks against frozen enemies deal 300% damage, and it thus has excellent synergy with that element.
  • The Stinger will receive all melee damage increases from skills, artifacts, class mods, grenades, and anointments.
  • The Stinger receives both melee and area of effect damage increases.
  • Artifacts that grant melee effects, such as the Elemental Stones, Cutpurse, Commander Planetoid, Knife Drain, and Static Charge can all be used with the Stinger.
  • The Stinger is extremely effective with the "Slayer" modifier in Mayhem Mode, as enemies that are killed may recharge the shield.
  • The Stinger receives the melee damage bonus from weapons such as the Psycho Stabber.
  • The Stinger does not need to fully recharge before a nova can be released.

Trivia[]

  • The name, flavor text, and special effect are a reference to the Simpsons episode The Homer They Fall where Moe gives Homer his "lucky mitts" that are boxing gloves wrapped in barbed wire.
  • The Stinger's novas will trigger a duel with any nearby teammate.
