The Sponge is a Seraph Absorb Shield manufactured by Vladof. The Sponge can only be obtained from trading with the Seraph Vendor in the Badass Crater of Badassitude or as a rare drop from Pete the Invincible.

Usage and Description
The Sponge is an slightly improved absorb shield without any special characteristics that make it different in use from general counterparts. It has the higher capacity in its family but it's totally outclassed in absorb chance by The Sham, but the Sponge may spawn with maliwan capacitors that feature elemental resistance, while the Sham cannot.
Absorb Chance
The lowest possible absorb chance on the Sponge is 32% (if Body, Battery and Capacitor parts of the shield are of Dahl manufacture, which reduces special effects on shields) and the highest possible absorb chance is 53% provided the Body, Battery and Capacitor are manufactured by Maliwan, at the cost of less shield defence and recharge rate.
One of the Legendary Vladof shields in the game, the Transformer, has a highest possible absorb chance of 42%, and any other purple rarity Vladof shield have highest absorb chances of 48%. Both of that values can be as low as 19% and 15% respectively, and even lower on white, green or blue shields.
On the other hand, the Sponge is outclassed by The Sham which have absorb values that range from 76% to 94%
