Shock Crystal Harvest is a quest provided by the Fyrestone Bounty Board. Although this is one of the optional quests in the Arid Badlands, by completing this quest you are able to gain several Achievements. In addition, you will need to enter the Lost Cave in order to complete Claptrap Rescue: The Lost Cave.

Background

The Lost Cave is where shock crystals are harvested. The shock crystals can be crafted into an Artifact, which is used to modify the players class ability by applying a shock elemental effect. This quests provides the player their first opportunity to acquire one of these items.

Walkthrough

Travel to the Lost Cave in the Arid Badlands and collect 50 shock crystals. Once done, return to the Fyrestone Bounty Board for your reward.

Objectives

Harvest Shock Crystals in the Lost Cave.
  • Shock Crystals: 0/50

Quest Information

Shock Elemental Artifacts allow you to customize your skills with the power of lightning. The key component for such an artifact is the Shock Crystal. I can fashion an artifact for you, but you'll need to provide the crystals. Go to the Lost Cave and shoot the Crystal Clusters to break them apart. Watch out for the bandits that have taken over the cave.

Strategy

Lost Cave location map

You must enter the cave, find the crystal stashes, shoot them, and then collect the broken crystals that fall on the ground. There are five crystals per stash. Using a powerful shotgun at close range can instantly break the stash, earning all 5 crystals straight away.

You will see lots of clusters of crystals around, but the ones you are looking for are on the ground, pulsing blue, and making a loud crackling noise. When you move your cursor over them you will notice a red health bar appear.

This quest can be very difficult if attempted the moment the quest appears on the bounty board. If you're below level 13, the skags, worms, and a large camp of bandits can prove seriously challenging, unless the player takes advantage of the crystal respawning exploit noted below.

It is possible to enter the cave, sprint to the first crystal stash, shoot it, collect it, then run for the cave exit. The next time you enter the cave, the crystal stash will have respawned and you can repeat the technique. You gain 5 crystals each time. (clicking the left joystick[Console]/shift key[PC] allows the player to sprint).

Completion

"These Crystals are perfect! Here's the artifact I promised. Enjoy your shocking new ability."

Upon turning in this quest you will receive a Shock Artifact which can be applied to your player's special ability in the skills menu.

Nearby Quests

  • Claptrap Rescue: The Lost Cave - The "Lost Cave" is also where you will encounter a Claptrap Rescue Quest. This is technically the second Claptrap repair quest, as the first one was in Fyrestone, but did not reward you with an upgrade to your backpack. As a reward, you will receive an SDU for your backpack gaining you three more inventory slots. The repair kit is all the way at the end of the cave, so there is no shortcut to fighting your way in and back out to get the reward. Backpack upgrades are extremely valuable as the game goes on. If your level is too low to make it through, it is worth just coming back later. Because this is a side quest, there is no rush in taking it on.

2nd Playthrough

  • Level = 38
  • Reward = 10368XP, Level 4 Shock Artifact
