Special Weapon Effects

Ewww – Always spawns with corrosive element. Shoots arcing projectiles, although in a shorter arc than other splatguns. Reloading will trigger two child grenades after the initial explosion. Only consumes 1 ammo per shot, unlike other splatguns.

Usage & Description

The Retcher fires arcing projectiles similar to E-tech Splatguns. However, it differs from a typical Splatgun by having a much shorter arc, severely limiting the range of the weapon. This actually works to the Retcher's advantage in a small sense, making it easier to control the area of impact on the projectile despite the weapon's low accuracy. It also lacks the double ammo usage of an E-tech weapon, so that it is one of the few Seraph weapons that does not suffer from an extremely decreased magazine size.

In addition to the unusual projectiles, the reload effect of the Retcher is somewhat modified from the behavior of a standard Tediore Splatgun. Although reloading produces child grenades as a Tediore Splatgun will, the two grenades are launched at a much higher arc than normal, typically such that they will impact the ceiling of virtually any indoor location. Because the grenades detonate on impact, the usefulness of this feature is limited, especially since the blast radius of the child grenades is very, very small. Confusingly, the child grenades are Explosive rather than Corrosive, despite being green in color.

Overall the performance on the Retcher is very similar to that of a Tediore Splatgun, even with the shortened projectile arc. Its single ammo usage makes it much more damage-efficient than E-tech Splatguns, especially with the Gentle prefix, and gives it a greater number of shots per magazine, but it also lacks the increased status effect chance of a true Splatgun.
