Is a large grey Rakk that swoops down and breathes fire on its foes. It attacks while characters are looking for Hidden Journals in the "Hidden Journal: Rust Commons West" mission. Rakkinishu drops loot just like any other boss monster, but it will always drop the Cracked Sash, a shield that recharges quickly, but has a low total capacity.

Strategy

Rakkinishu flies above the field of battle, pausing to unleash a jet of flame at targets on the ground. He has moderately high health, and this coupled with his swooping flight can turn any fight against him into a protracted battle.

When fighting Rakkinishu, avoid getting caught in the flame jet. Several huts around the area offer ample protection and can be used to recover.

Notes

  • Rakkinishu seems to be vulnerable to explosive damage.
  • Rakkinshu will occasionally drop The Sentinel
  • It's possible to bring a Runner into the area where Rakkinishu spawns. Using a machine-gun Runner, lock onto him and drive in circles around the encampment. This is an easy way to wear him down while taking little to no damage. Rocket-launcher Runners are more difficult to do this with, since Rakkinshu can dodge the rockets much easier than the machine-gun.

Trivia

  • Rakkinishu is a reference to Rakanishu, a Carver boss from Diablo 2. Diablo 2 is a game with a similar item collection to Borderlands and has often been referenced by Gearbox developers as an inspiration for Borderlands. The Cracked Sash is another Diablo 2 reference, being named after the lowest quality belt item in that game.
