Queen Tarantella is the Queen of all Spiderants. She is about four times larger than the average Queen Spiderant.

Location

Queen Tarantella is located in Trash Coast and is involved in the "Bait and Switch" mission, where she will drop her abdomen when killed. This will then be needed to summon King Aracobb, king of spiderants. She can be found at the bottom of a gully in the lower portion of the map.

Strategy

  • Don't even try to attack Tarantella's front. Only her abdomen will take any damage!
  • Queen Tarantella's most vulnerable hit location is a very large abdomen at the back. Shooting this results in some very easy critical hits. She will often use a long ranged attack which lifts the weak abdomen above her head and allows for numerous critical hit opportunities.
  • Although Queen Tarantella is very large, she is also particularly fast and will try to melee attack her enemies. Her attack is much more powerful than that of the average spiderant.
  • Like many bosses, she is immune to elemental damage.
  • The cliff on the other side of the valley which Queen Tarantella spawns provides a useful sniping position, as spiderants will not come up the ledge due to it being too narrow for them.
  • Tarantella's projectile attack deals massive damage, particularly in Playthrough 2.5, where it can hit for approximately 1,300 damage. If possible, attack from either extreme range or close combat, as even Tarantella's melee attacks are weak against her ranged attack.
  • When Tarentella is killed, spiderantlings will burst forth from her corpse.

Notes

  • Queen Tarantella may drop the level 48 version of the unique revolver "Patton" when killed again in Playthrough 2.5 after the mission "Bait and Switch" has been completed.
  • Using Sledge's Shotgun, particularly with an upgraded magazine size, can yield interesting results. Sledge's Shotgun has a knockback effect if enough slugs hit, and Queen Tarantella is so massive that it isn't terribly difficult to hit her with the majority of a shotgun's projectiles. If shot upwards at a slight angle, Tarantella may be punted over the cliff and into the rock wall surrounding the area where she is fought, and can easily become stuck. Shooting from directly under her and unleashing a clip, it is possible to launch Tarantella into the air for several seconds.

Trivia

  • The Tarantella is an Italian folk dance which was named after and originally believed to cure the bite of the Tarantula spider.
  • Tarantella is closely spelled to the name "Tarantula", a large carnivorous spider.
