The Pyrotech Heavy is a Maliwan trooper found in Borderlands 3. They are an incendiary variant of the Heavy Gunner.

Although functionally the same, Pyrotech Heavy's encountered during the Bloody Harvest event inside The Heck Hole are renamed to "Pyre Heavy".

Appearances

Strategy

A Pyrotech Heavy is armed with dual flamethrowers on their arms. They attack with a long-range fireball barrage, leap into the air to rapidly close in onto their targets, or spray the field with pools of flames. Stepping in the flames at any time will deal continuous Incendiary damage to the character. A Pyrotech Heavy is one of the more dangerous Maliwan Heavies due to their element helping deal considerable damage to any character with a depleted shield.

The pack on a Pyrotech Heavy's back is his weak point. Like other Maliwan Heavies, concentrated fire will cause it to explode and instantly kill the Pyrotech Heavy. Destroying the pack causes an explosion that leaves huge pool of napalm to be left in the Pyrotech Heavy's place, which will damage anyone who steps inside.

It is best to keep the character's shield at half or max capacity during any fight with a Pyrotech Heavy due to incendiary damage, and characters should keep a cautious eye out on the floor to assure they do not strafe through napalm puddles. Because of their incendiary element, Pyrotech Heavies are resistant to incendiary damage. As such, characters should focus other elements on them in order to defeat them as easily as possible.

Notes

  • There exists a dark variant of the Pyrotech Heavy that can be found serving General Traunt on Nekrotafeyo or on the Slaughterstar 3000. Aside from their name and color scheme, they are functionally the same as their basic counterparts.
    • There also exists a Special Ops variant of the Pyrotech Heavy found at the Maliwan Blacksite at Midnight's Cairn, where they serve as guardsmen for the weapons project Valhalla. Aside from the name and color scheme, the Heavy retains their tactics.
  • In Mayhem Mode and True Vault Hunter Mode, they are renamed Flamethrower Heavyweight.
