The Powerhouse Heavy is a Maliwan trooper found in Borderlands 3. They are a shock variant of the Heavy Gunner.

Appearances

Strategy

Powerhouse Heavies are armed with dual shock cannons on their arms. In addition to these cannons, they also can fire a set of electrical spears to create an electric field in order to damage targets. Because of their shock element, a Powerhouse Heavy is able to quickly deplete the shield of the target and deal significant damage.

The electrical spear attack is a particularly dangerous attack; it fires three spears into the ground, and characters within the electrical field take continuous shock damage. Destroying a spear can disrupt the field, however, while the spears can be seen, the field not immediately visible, which can be a significant danger. While said hazard is active, the Powerhouse Heavy is still free to keep firing other attacks, including balls of condensed shock, and a volley of shock blasts.

Like other Maliwan Heavies, the Powerhouse Heavy's battery pack can be shot and destroyed, instantly killing the Powerhouse Heavy. When it explodes, a large pool of blue will be left behind, and visible sparks of electricity are visible in it. Anyone stepping in will take continuous shock damage.

Shields that drop the character's maximum health in favor for of increased hield capacity can prove detrimental during a fight with a Powerhouse Heavy. If the character has the Transformer shield equipped, however, it trivializes all damage from a Powerhouse Heavy except for melee attacks. It is best to generally avoid all shock damage, as a Powerhouse Heavy is resistant to it, and their shields do not take more damage from it.

Notes

  • There exists a dark variant of the Powerhouse Heavy that can be found serving General Traunt on Nekrotafeyo or on the Slaughterstar 3000. Aside from their name and color scheme, they are functionally the same as their basic counterparts.
    • There also exists a Special Ops variant of the Powerhouse Heavy found at the Maliwan Blacksite at Midnight's Cairn, where they serve as guardsmen for the weapons project Valhalla. Aside from the name and color scheme, the Heavy retains their tactics.
  • In Mayhem Mode and True Vault Hunter Mode, they are renamed Stormchucker Heavyweight.
