Borderlands is a science fiction first-person shooter game with RPG elements created by Gearbox Software.

Borderlands, the first installment in the series, was released in October 2009, and by the end of the year it had sold over two million units. Sales surpassed 3 million in 2010 and 4.5 million in 2011.

Borderlands 2 was released in 2012. It became a huge hit, selling more than 8.5 million copies in the first two years and 12 million as of March 2015. By 2019, more than 20 million units had been shipped. Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel! followed in 2014.

Borderlands 3 was released in 2019. Though less positively received that the previous games, by 2022 it had sold 15 million copies.

Borderlands 4 is planned for release in 2025.
