At some point a Vault Monster-worshipping cult of humans developed on the planet, and the cultists sealed their own doom by eventually opening the Vault. The Vault Monster killed every single cultist except for Amon, who then dedicated his life to hunting down Vault Monsters in an attempt to avenge the deaths of everyone he had loved.
