A Pearlescent Weapon

Pearlescent (or Cyan) weapons/items are a confirmed rarity type that are encountered in the third DLC, The Secret Armory of General Knoxx.[1] They can be found in weapon boxes, dropped by Crawmerax the Invincible, bosses during This Bitch is Payback, and less commonly by Lancers. They can also be dropped by BadAss Bruisers, Lance Pyros, Badass Engineers, Drifters and on rare occasion can be found by opening Crimson Lance chests.

Items with Pearlescent rarity

These are the only confirmed Pearlescent items, all added with DLC3. Any others found in game not bearing these names are most likely illegitimate such as the "Bitch Bitch" or the "Unforgiven Unforgiven".

Pre-Knoxx

  • Pearlescent was an old bug in Borderlands before the advent of the Secret Armory of General Knoxx where "white" weapons would appear over "orange" weapons in the menu. It was fixed in the patch preceding DLC3.

Notes

  • Pearlescent is the rarest quality for the moment
  • It is the only rarity over Purple to contain a shield.
  • The rarity of obtaining Pearlescent weapons is a chance less than 1 for every 66 "Orange" weapons.
  • Each manufacturer has its own pearlescent weapon/shield, except for Atlas, who has 2.
  • "Pearl"-named weapons should not be confused with Pearlescent weapons. Some high-end Atlas weapons come with a "Pearl" prefix, which should not be confused for rarity. Therefore, an Atlas Pearl pearlescent should be quite rare.
