Naming Conventions[]
Certain classes of common heavy weapons are named thematically by the manufacturer.
- Maliwan energy bolt weapons have names inspired by science fiction, like the Cesium Spool, or directly lifted from actual scifi works, like the C-Beam, a reference to the famous soliloquy from Blade Runner, and the Muon Lance, a weapon name that has been used in multiple sci-fi franchises.
- Maliwan weapons that fire energy orbs are named after storm-related weather terminology. Examples are Eyewall, Galeforce, and Supercell.
- Ripper disc-launchers are named for tools related to cutting and sanding, as in Adze, Drawshave, and Rasp.
- Ripper weapons that project a continuous energy beam are named for terms related to divination. Some examples are Auspex, Oracle, and Prophecy.
- Torgue rocket launchers and rocket pods are named with two words that rhyme or alliterate, like Litter Spitter, Naughty Nelly, and Peek Seeker.
- Vladof autocannons are named after Russian words for kinds of birds, for example Golub (rus. голубь; pigeon), Petuch (rus. петух; rooster) and Soroka (rus. соро́ка; magpie).
- Vladof gatling guns have names related to foundries, such as Bloomery, Boiler, and Smeltmill.
