Montgomery Jakobs is a unseen supporting character in Borderlands 3.

Background

Prior to being murdered by Tyreen Calypso, Montgomery was the third CEO of the Jakobs corporation, head of the Jakobs family, and the father of Wainwright Jakobs. While he is not shown in person throughout the game, he is given significant backstory throughout echo logs, both from the likes of Typhon DeLeon and those found on his crashed personal ship, the Family Jewel.

He is one of the only known individuals who held information of the vault key on Eden-6, and is a major factor towards the events that occur on the planet in-game.

Involvement

Before the events of the game, Montgomery knew that the Children of the Vault were coming after the galaxy's Vaults and that it was only a matter of time before they hunted down the one on Eden-6. With this in mind, Montgomery left a vinyl record with clues to finding the planet's vault key pieces. He appears to be suffering from severe gut rot at this point; soon after, the Calypso twins infiltrated Jakobs Estate and killed Montgomery while he was buttering a biscuit, setting off the events of Eden-6 and sending Wainwright into a brief depression.

Once the Vault Hunters find his vinyl, Montgomery points them to three locations to assemble the vault key of Eden 6 before the Calypso twins do: "The Grand Reserve", "The Oily Graveyard", and "The Family Jewel".

Montgomery is a city in the U.S. state of Alabama. The fact that Montgomery Jakobs held controversial views about Truxican immigration may be a nod to the rocky history of the state, which included civil wars and rights movements.
