Montgomery Jakobs is a unseen supporting character in Borderlands 3.
Background
Prior to being murdered by Tyreen Calypso, Montgomery was the third CEO of the Jakobs corporation, head of the Jakobs family, and the father of Wainwright Jakobs. While he is not shown in person throughout the game, he is given significant backstory throughout echo logs, both from the likes of Typhon DeLeon and those found on his crashed personal ship, the Family Jewel. He is also responsible for providing audio cues for the Jakobs ancestors' statue puzzles in the Blackbarrel Cellars.
Thanks to being under the Jakobs family, Montgomery had a very pampered life. Through ECHO logs found on the Family Jewel, he was highly critical of modern instruction manuals not being written in cursive and "removing curved serifs like the heads of old wisemen". However, he seems to have been brought up with little to no affection, as he lashes out while installing GenIVIV on his ship, commenting that he has enough cold and distant people in his life. This seems to include his own wife, Maggie, as his tone quickly changes once GenIVIV programs herself to use a "bratty young girl" personality and calls him a "cutie", to the point where he tells her not to mention this to his wife. Tight on budget, Monty purchased a Tediore Navigation AI and being unable to choose between "Alex" and "Barry", named it "BALEX".
He is one of the only known individuals who held information of the vault key on Eden-6, and is a major factor towards the events that occur on the planet in-game. Prior to the events of Borderlands 3, Monty knew that COV would eventually hunt down the Vault on Eden-6, and left a vinyl record with clues to the Vault Key Fragments hidden in the Jakobs Estate. He is later killed by Tyreen and Troy Calypso while eating, sending Wainwright into a brief depression. The COV attack also sets the game's events in motion.
Involvement
After accepting Aurelia's deal in hopes of finding more Vault Key clues under the advice of Wainwright, the Vault Hunters retrieve Monty's vinyl in the Jakobs Estate, within the theater's basement. Wainwright plays the vinyl, in which Montgomery points them to three locations: "The Grand Reserve", "The Oily Graveyard", and "The Family Jewel".

Trivia
- Montgomery is a city in the U.S. state of Alabama. The fact that Montgomery Jakobs held controversial views about Truxican immigration may be a nod to the rocky history of the state, which included civil wars and rights movements.
- Montgomery is mentioned as early as in Borderlands 2 in the flavor text of Maggie, which says "Monty's Wife don't take no guff."
