Objectives

Kill Taylor Kobb, then talk to his Claptrap.

Description

An idiot Vault Hunter follows the direction of an insane archeologist, and the result is disaster. Jaynis was no angel, but under Taylor's rule, Jaynistown is a greater threat than ever. You caused this mess, so you can clean it up by killing Taylor Kobb. If reaching the Trash Coast is so blasted important, his hacked claptrap should allow you to pass once he's dead.

Strategy

You'll notice right away that a series of Gattling Turrets have sprung up in Taylortown, slowing your progress. It is recommended that you find cover near the town's entrance and pick them off with a sniper rifle or corrosive/explosive weapon. Once the turrets are taken care of, you're free to proceed through the town at your own pace, killing the bandits and taking cover as needed. You shoud note that bandits can and will crawl out of doorways, potentially taking you by surprise. Be on the lookout for any errant bandits emerging as you make your way forward to avoid an ambush.

Once you've sufficiently cleared out the town, you'll come to an open gate, leading into an area with a large rock and a building overlooking a cliff. Once you enter, two Rocket Turrets will emerge from the roof of the building, and two Bruisers will spawn along with Taylor Kobb. There may also be another bandit or two that spawns to your side along with the Bruisers.

So long as you take cover behind the large rock (with offers the best protection from the rockets' splash damage) your first concern should be the Bruisers. Since they'll most likely come right to you, simply lie in wait with a good, close-quarters weapon and take them out as quickly as possible. Once they're down, focus on the turrets. You'll only have a very small window to pop up and shoot them between rocket volleys from each turret and from Taylor himself, who also carries a rocket launcher. Corrosive weapons are highly recommended against the turrets as their DoT will allow you to take cover and also deal increased damage.

Finally, once the turrets are down, you can attack Taylor. Since he will most likely be shooting rockets nearly nonstop, popping up and lining up critical shots can be tricky. Instead, try to provide a distraction with a grenade (or, as Roland, by deploying a turret) and then closing the distance between you and Taylor. At close range, his rocket launcher has limited effectiveness. Keep running circles around him and laying into him with powerful close-quarters weapons until he goes down.

Once he's dead, collect his unique rocket launcher, The Roaster, which deals high fire damage and often shoots multiple rockets at once. Don't forget to loot the oval chest at the top of the stairs behind him. When you've finished looting and exploring Taylortown, head back to where you first met Taylor (near the Catch-a-Ride and vending machines) and turn the quest in to Taylor's Claptrap.

Notes

Badass Claptrap

Taylor's Claptrap

When you talk to the Claptrap after killing Kobb, he says:

  • "Without a master I have two options. I can listen to you move your disgusting meat flaps... OR... I could stick an electrode up my back panel and call it paradise. I will comply with what you need, then get out of my scan range.

The following missions will be available once you've completed the mission:

Trivia

Both "Jaynistown", and "Kobb" are Firefly references; in Firefly, Adam Baldwin's character was called Jayne Cobb. In fact, there was an episode called Jaynestown in Firefly too.
