ION LASER is a legendary submachine gun in Borderlands 3 manufactured by Maliwan. It is obtained randomly from any suitable loot source, but has an increased chance to drop from EVIL Saint Lawrence located in The Spendopticon.
Special Weapon Effects[]
Particles unite! – Fires additional projectiles when the trigger is released that deal splash damage. The number of additional projectiles is based on how long the weapon was fired, with up to 8 projectiles after 3 seconds of shooting.
Usage & Description[]
The ION LASER has a somewhat gimmicky special effect that mostly gives its user the ability to deal some extra damage before reloading or switching weapons. However, the burst of projectiles can stack up for large amounts of damage, which can make short work of enemies with weaknesses to elements. Optimal use of the weapon involves releasing the trigger after several seconds before continuing to fire again.
Notes[]
- If the player has precise timing, after firing the bonus projectiles, they can tap the trigger repeatedly to fire that number of additional projectiles repeatedly for a few seconds. This can increase the effectiveness of the weapon.
- Hotfix 12/17/2020: Damage increased by 33.3%.
- The ION LASER is internally categorized as an assault rifle instead of a submachine gun.
