Hope and Self Esteem are two aspects of Claptrap's personality, found in the Claptastic Voyage DLC, from Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel.
Involvement
During the storyline mission END OF LINE, the Vault Hunters are tasked with retrieving Claptrap's Hope and Self Esteem, in Claptrap's Subconscious. Initially, they are found to have been corrupted into Despair and Self-Loathing, and must be defeated in their Clapdog form before reverting back to their original selves.
Both manifest as little Claptrap-like robots. Hope has a pair of wings similar to Lilith's Phoenix effect and Maya's Blight Phoenix effect. Self Esteem carries a shield.
Once the battle is over, Hope and Self Esteem will become allies and open various paths for the Vault Hunters, as part of the storyline. Shortly after they are returned to Claptrap's Consciousness, though, it is revealed that Claptrap's Consciousness was actually 5H4D0W-TP in disguise, who takes control of Hope and Self Esteem in order to become more powerful.
Later in the mission, when the Vault Hunters first face 5H4D0W-TP in combat directly, Hope and Self-Esteem will fly around the arena sending buffs into 5H4D0W-TP. One buff will generate a strong shield surrounding 5H4D0W-TP, and the other will heal 5H4D0W-TP. Hope and Self Esteem trade off buffs - they are not each assigned a specific role.
