HealthBarFlash

When health is low, you will get a notification

Health determines how much damage a player can sustain after their shields are depleted.

When hovering your cross-hair over an ally or enemy, you can see the status of their health represented by a red bar. Additionally, you can see the health of any ally next to their name on your HUD, also in a red bar.

You can see how much health you have in the red bar at the bottom-left of your screen. When your health drops below 50%, the unfilled part of your health-bar will flash. When you have less than 40% of your health left, a red notification will flash above your health-bar.

Both the maximum amount of health and regeneration of health can be influenced in many different ways.

After your health is depleted, you will become crippled. While crippled, you must earn a Second Wind or be revived by an ally, or you will be forced to rewpawn at the nearest New-U station or respawn point at a fee of 7% of your total wealth.

Maximum health

In order to stay alive, you need health. There is only so much health you can have, and it depends on a multitude of factors.

Everyone starts off with 100 health when creating a new character. Each time you level up, you gain another 15 health. Without any other influences, this allows you to get 1000 health at level 61, assuming you have DLC3.

Shields manufactured by Torgue always increase the user's health.

Furthermore, some classes have a class mod and/or one or more skills that can add extra health.

  • Mordecai's only way of increasing his maximum health is through the use of a Truxican Wrestler Class Mod obtained from one of the Loot Midgets from DLC3.(Truxian Wrestler)
  • Roland can increase his health through Fitness.
  • Brick has the most different ways of increasing his health. Aside from his Hardened-skill, he can use either a Berserker or Titan classmod to improve on his own health, or a Centurion or Skirmisher class mod to increase the whole party's health.

NOTE: The extra health from class mods and shields is not filled out when joining a game.

Health regeneration

Aside from being able to have a lot of health, it's also important to make sure you don't lose it all. There are many ways to get health back.

First of all, leveling up will fully heal you. This can be an advantage when fighting a boss with many henchmen. Leveling during such a fight can change the outcome drastically.

Health Kits and Insta-Health Vials can be either found or bought from a Medical Vending Machine. Health Kits can be carried and used in between battles, while Insta-Health Vials are used immediately. In Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot, there is a larger variant of the Insta-Health Vial, healing more.

Shields made by Tediore usually have a health-regenerating function, the exception being the shield you can buy during the Fix'er Upper-mission. Furthermore, Wee Wee's Super Booster has very fast health regeneration, and the Rose regenerates health when depleted.

There is also the Transfusion Grenade Mod made by Anshin that gives nearby players health stolen from enemies.

Additionally, all classes have skills and/or class mods to regenerate health.

  • Mordecai can gain health from enemies using Out For Blood, or he can get health on kill with Riotous Remedy. Scavenger class mods have a chance of having team health regeneration, while a Survivor class mod will always do so.
  • Roland can apply healing to his turret through the use of Aid Station, or he can heal himself and other near him on a kill with Stat. When using Cauterize, he can heal allies by shooting them, but not himself. A Tactician class mod may have team health regeneration.
  • Lilith's only way of healing is by using Phasewalk while having points invested in Inner Glow.
  • Brick will gain strong health regeneration while in Berserk, and can increase that by killing enemies during Berserk and having points in Blood Sport. Also, both the Centurion and Titan class mod have a chance of gaining team health regeneration and standard health regeneration respectively.

Crippled

Crippled

When your out of health, you must fight for your life!

Revived

Remember to say thanks to your ressurector

When you lose all your health, you become crippled. When this happens, your character will fall to their knees, and your Active Ability is canceled, the exception being if Bloodwing is already deployed. A bar will appear in the lower left, indicating how long you have before dying. There are a few ways to survive this:

  • Killing an enemy. There are some restrictions to this. You can't move, throw grenades, or use an active ability. Your accuracy is also decreased, and you can't access your ECHO menu.
  • When in multiplayer, an ally can come up to you and revive you, granting them 100xp. They must stay near you while reviving you, and they'll drop you if they start shooting, reloading or if they're pushed away. While being revived, you will stop bleeding out. Enemy gunfire, will not damage you, so it's best to shoot all enemies to prevent them from shooting your resurrector. Warning: if you hit someone that is crippled with any kind of vehicle, they can't be revived any more.
  • Also in multiplayer, if your team kills an enemy and that levels you up, you will be instantly revived and have full health and shield.

When your back up, you will have full shields, but only a small percentage of your health. The Diehard skill increases the amount of health you have, as well as the time you have before dying.

It should be noted that becoming crippled shortly after getting up will result in the bleed-out to speed up. This can be avoided by equipping the Pangolin Ironclad shield

Death

New-U

Pay 7% (left), unless your stump broke (right)

If you find yourself crippled but unable to get a second wind, this will result in your death. This means that you are teleported to the last New-U Station you passed. There, you will have to pay seven percent of your money as a fee. If you have less than seven dollar, however, the fee is waived. Furthermore, falling to your death in T-Bone Junction will never cost you anything. Getting killed by drones, however, will. Aside from having to pay, you will get a bit of ammunition for the gun you were holding at the time of your death.

There are certain scenarios where you do not get crippled, but instead will die immediately. These are falling to your death, and being killed by a vehicle. Also, if you are hit by a vehicle while bleeding out, you will die instantaneously.

Also, there is a glitch concerning Phasewalk and death. If you are in Phasewalk the moment you die from falling, you will teleport back to the last New-U Station you visited, but you don't have to pay any fees. This can be of use when you want to cover some distance, there is a New-U Station where you want to go, and there is a cliff nearby. Also, when falling by accident while you have Phasewalk ready, it's a good idea to use it before you hit the ground.
