For the assault rifle in Borderlands 3, see Hail (Borderlands 3).

Hail is a unique aftermarket Vladof assault rifle in Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. It uses the Dahl Barrel.

In Borderlands 2, Hail is obtained as a mission reward from Bandit Slaughter: Round 5.

In Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, Hail can be obtained as a drop from Iwajira in Serenity's Waste.

Special Weapon Effects

What plaything can you offer me today? – Fires projectiles that sharply ascend before falling in an arc. After a certain distance, bullets will split in two. User is healed 3% of damage dealt while holding this weapon. Bonus critical hit damage of 200% (150% in the Pre-Sequel) and 80% elemental splash damage.

Usage & Description

The Hail's unique projectile behavior can make this a challenging weapon to use effectively as it trades distance for damage and area denial. The weapon can be used to rain a devastating hail of elemental damage down upon a wide area, showering advancing enemies and ones behind cover alike. Firing while scoped will concentrate massive damage onto a tight space and aiming low will mitigate the arc of the weapon.

Notes

  • Use of Vel0city or Accelerate can make this gun either extremely hard to use or easier, depending on the user's ability to adjust aim downwards to compensate for the much faster projectiles.
  • The Hail works well with Gaige's Close Enough, allowing shots to be fired over obstructions in the enemy's general direction, while hiding behind cover, and effectively killing enemies with little risk of being hit by return fire.
  • The Hail's split projectiles are not listed and thus they gain full amp damage.
  • Unlike most elemental assault rifles, the Hail delivers splash damage with each shot, inflicting 80% of the listed gun damage.
  • The Hail's damage is boosted by grenade damage bonuses.

Trivia

  • The flavor text is a part of line said by Ming the Merciless, the main antagonist in the 1980 film Flash Gordon.
