The following statements are based heavily on educated guessing:

Grenadier is a skill that should always have at least a single point invested, when available. Grenades are actually a relatively rare item on Pandora (outside of vendors), and this skill allows Roland to be much more liberal with his grenade usage.

 +
A single point in this skill is enough to allow Roland to consistently throw a single grenade as a "fight opener" during encounters.
The GpM seems to be equvalent to [1.5 × Skill Level], rounded up. Given Borderlands' apparent preference for trying to keep percentages and statistics obscured in favor of "Easy-View Numbers", extrapolating that the 'true' GpM really is [ 1.5 * (Skill Level) ] would not be too farfetched. Going a bit further, it is possible that the actual rate of regeneration is one grenade every { 60 / [1.5 * (Skill Level) ] } seconds, which would make the left table (where 1 grenade is regenerated every X seconds) approximately correct. If, however, you really *do* regenerate the 'listed' number of grenades per minute, the right table more likely to be correct. Note that at even skill point investments it makes no difference.

 +
*In either case testing shows that partial grenades can be earned meaning that even with one skill point you will regenerate a grenade once you have accumulated enough time with Grenadier up, even if not up constantly.

 +
Higher levels of Grenadier and Supply Drop can guarantee virtually infinite grenades. In an ideal testing environment (with max Supply Drop) a Shock Trooper was observed to regenerate a consistent 39 grenades each minute while maintaining Refire.

*Testing indicates 35 seconds (exactly 5 individual kills where Grenadier buff runs its full course before next kill) are required to earn 1 grenade with 1 point in Grenadier. It is speculated that this is due to rounding because at 1 point the 7 second buff only earns .2 grenades. Further testing indicates that Literal Table is more likely the correct GpM rate.

Notes
Given the nonsequential progression of GpM ("grenades per minute") increases, it is not known precisely how many would be regenerated for values higher than 5 (through COMs). Further testing is required.

However, since testing shows the duration "for a few seconds" to be approximately 7 seconds, once you reach five points in Grenadier you're basicallly assured one free grenade when you land a killing shot.

<!-- Interwiki links -->
With 8 points in Refire and 5 in Deploy it is theoretically possible to have a turret continuously deployed. With 5 points into Supply Drop, you will get 8 or more grenades per deployment which results in approximately 24 GpM without having to kill anything. You will have to shoot something every 2 seconds though in between lobbing grenades to re-trigger refire.

Strategy

Grenadier is a skill that should always have at least a single point invested, when available. Grenades are actually a relatively rare item on Pandora (outside of vendors), and this skill allows Roland to be much more liberal with his grenade usage.

A single point in this skill is enough to allow Roland to consistently throw a single grenade as a "fight opener" during encounters.

Higher levels of Grenadier and Supply Drop can guarantee virtually infinite grenades. In an ideal testing environment (with max Supply Drop) a Shock Trooper was observed to regenerate a consistent 39 grenades each minute while maintaining Refire.

Grenadier is especially well suited for a Scorpio-centric Roland build. It gives Roland the possibility to consistently attack from cover, while regenerating his shields, and health from behind the Scorpio Turret.

Notes

 • Grenadier last 7 seconds.
 • Grenades are earned "over time", in a stacked fashion: This is equivalent to acquiring partial grenades, with your grenade count increasing by 1 when a full grenade has been regenerated. Partial grenades may exist in the regeneration counter even if at max grenades. Completed grenades that are earned will be lost if at max grenades.
 • Slightly spacing the Grenadier buffs will yield slightly more grenades per minute than the actual values due to this skill rounding up to the nearest .1 grenade each time it ends. This is the most notable at 7 skill points. At 8 or 9 skill points Grenadier will likely regenerate fewer grenades per minute due to time lost in-between kills.
