Each time i try i do something stupid.

I never edited any kind of wiki before and i thought it would be quite simple, but it is not(well not to me)

I added stats for the WTF orange shield and a picture but each time i add a picture or its link it screws up

Thank you well in advance. —Preceding unsigned comment added by IGrayfoxI (talkcontribs)

Firstly, thanks for taking the time to ask. We're being run ragged with vandals at the moment, so it's refreshing to deal with a "How do I contribute?" question instead of the usual update spam that needs fixing down the track.

Secondly, and to answer the question, the best plan is to start small and see how wiki markup works. Instead of jumping in with image placement and tables, try just adding a bit of text on a subject you know, just to get a feel for the edit interface. We maintain a manual of style that should offer a few pointers on the expectations of editors here, so that's a good place to check up on editing considerations. As for the edit interface itself, there is a toggle for the code view where you can disable the rich text editor. I always use the code view by default, because the rich text editor can spit out some odd results. Try that out and see if you can get things to make more sense using that. Lastly, the preview function is your friend. All edits can be tested before publication, and I highly recommend checking edits before clicking "Publish". -- WarBlade (talk) 11:12, October 16, 2012 (UTC)

How do I add categories to my images?

i read the categories help but that seems to tell me which tags to use.

Do I add them in the summary part?

Thanks again IGrayfoxI (talk) 10:36, October 17, 2012 (UTC)

There are two ways. Typically with major article creation there is a separate little edit box for the categories along with the larger edit box for the bulk of the article content. There is also a quick and dirty method for when the body text is not being edited. At the bottom of each article is an "Add category" button. Clicking that and then typing into the box provided will offer up some predicted options as you type. Once an appropriate category is found, Enter locks it in, and then the article is saved. -- WarBlade (talk) 10:50, October 17, 2012 (UTC)
