I did a quick farming test of the Tartarus Hyperion Gift Shop. I did 10 runs, recording numbers of Purple and Orange weapons only. This was done on PT1 with a Lvl 37 Hunter build. Admittedly the sample size is far too small for reliability, but the results were surprising:
I got only 5 Purple weapons (this is way below what I would expect from opening 180 random red chests in the vanilla game or Knoxx). Not good, and the weapons were mediocre for Purples.
However, I got 9 Orange weapons, which I would call a very good result. For the record, they ranged between Lvl 28 and 34, and were 3 Surkovs, 2 Equalizers, 1 Defender, 1 Raven, 1 Hammer, and 1 Orion.
Out of the whole farming experiment I kept only 2 weapons, the Orion (I love Orions!) and a Purple Caustic Shredder (not something I'd normally keep but I don't have a decent Corrosive weapon in this build). I also kept a 350 Sniper Mod, but only because it has ammo regen, which is useful for a Hunter build.
If the absence of good Purple weapons holds up over time (and at higher levels and later playthroughs) then farming the Gift Shop may not be that worthwhile compared to Craw or the Armory. Yes, I got a lot of Orange weapons, but I've had more drop in a single Craw battle, and it takes much less time to kill Craw than it does to do 10 Gift Shop runs and you get lots of excellent Purple weapons as well.
Any thoughts on this? Outbackyak 09:46, October 2, 2010 (UTC)
I would say overall i did get quite a few oranges as well in my dlc PT 1 i mean they were all kinda crappy even for the level, but they were more than my typical farming run in the vanilla game, i seen 8-9 as well, i didn't try farming the gift shop, just in random chests even a few in the crappy white chest. and the so called bad ass hyperion troop did drop alot of stuff, about as much as a drifter, and that kinda suprised me.
