For the unique assault rifle in Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, see Hail.

Hail is a unique assault rifle in Borderlands 3 manufactured by Dahl. It is obtained by tipping Miss Moxxi aboard the Sanctuary III and claimed via the Mail system.

Special Weapon Effects[]

What plaything can you offer me today? – Increased damage. Fires projectiles with a parabolic trajectory. 150% critical hit damage. The user is healed 10% of all damage dealt by the weapon.

Usage & Description[]

The Hail provides extremely high damage for a Dahl assault rifle, so much so that it matches or exceeds the damage per second of some of the best and most popular weapons in the game. However, the Hail features a parabolic trajectory that makes it difficult to use in longer distances. It also makes the Hail more difficult then almost any other weapon to get headshots with. While hitting small enemies and mobs can be a nightmare, it is viable against extremely large targets like the Graveward or Wotan, shredding their high health.

Along with its very high damage output, the Hail also has some of the highest lifesteal of any weapon in the game. As long as the shots hit an enemy, the Hail's healing can effectively outheal almost any incoming damage and supplement health gating tactics. However, the trajectory can mean that most of the shots will miss, so players shouldn't rely on this lifesteal unless they are firing at a large target. This makes this weapon extremely effective on characters that lack effective lifesteal, such as Moze and especially FL4K.

Because the character is usually un-killable while dealing damage with the weapon, the most vulnerable time of using the Hail is during reloads. This makes Skills, Artifacts, and Class Mods that increase magazine size very effective while using the Hail. Moze's ammo regeneration skills can keep her firing forever, practically making her invincible as long as she's dealing damage to an enemy.

What makes this weapon useful is its relative ease of acquisition by simply tipping on Sanctuary, it (and by extension any desirable anointments/elements) is easy to obtain on all occasions, selling for more than it takes to obtain one at sufficiently high levels.

Notes[]

  • Unlike Moxxi weapons from past games, the Hail will only heal with its own weapon damage.
  • To best utilize the weapon, players should aim about 45 degrees downward to hit enemies that are standing in front of them.

Trivia[]

  • The Hail is a returning weapon from Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel but as a unique Dahl assault rifle instead of a unique Vladof assault rifle obtained through tips rather as a mission reward.
    • Unlike the weapons obtained from tipping Moxxi in Borderlands 2, there is no limit to how many Hails the character can acquire per playthrough.
  • The flavor text is part of a line said by Ming the Merciless, the main antagonist in the 1980 film Flash Gordon.
