False Advertising, also titled Episode 4, is the fourth episode of New Tales from the Borderlands.
Episode Summary[]
Anu escapes from the Keeper of the Dead and a Tediore squad sent after her with the help of her friends. Back at Fran's Frogurts, she discovers that Octavio has spent all the money from their angel investor buying the remains of the store.
After battling Brock and the soldiers who followed Anu back to the shop, the team contacts the angel investor for help, who sends a car that takes them to safety. The player characters are separated and individually made offers that would fulfill their greatest dreams. Each of their experiences starts out well before abruptly turning against them. Fran figures out it's a trap and escapes, but Anu and Octavio are captured in cages, and L0U13 is paralyzed by an electrical charge.
Fran frees L0U13 and is reunited with her captured teammates. Tediore Chairwoman Susan Coldwell is revealed as the identity of both their captor and the angel investor. She proceeds to hold a holographic conference with the heads of the major corporations of the Borderlands universe and Athena, demanding that their organizations either merge with Tediore or be destroyed. The green crystal powering Anu's healing device is revealed to be half of a set that Susan owns the other piece of; united together, they form a powerful weapon that can torture a person into submission by killing and resurrecting them endlessly. Susan demonstrates on Octavio.
An alien spirit who has been hiding in Anu since she first touched the green crystal takes over her consciousness, telekinetically pulls the original crystal from the weapon into her torso, and attempts to reunite with its other half, but is unsuccessful. Susan orders her soldiers to lock up Anu and Octavio and execute Fran.
