The Eridium Cartel is an organized crime syndicate created by mob boss Joey Ultraviolet.

They serve as the main antagonists of Borderlands 3's Revenge of the Cartels event.

History[]

Involvement[]

After winning a card-game, Maurice would attack the Cartel's leader, Joey Ultraviolet, following a traditional belief that states that a victor should devour the loser after defeating them in gambling. Due to this transgression, Joey would eventually overcome the Saurian and break his arm and threatened to harm him more if he ever came across him again. Fearing another encounter with the mob boss, Maurice would ask the Vault Hunter to discover Joey's hideout, destroy his criminal empire and kill him.

Command Structure[]

The Cartel has influence all around the galaxy with Cartel Thugs and informants found within the ranks of its inhabitants, from the lowly bandit Children of the Vault to the militaristic superpower of the Maliwan Corporation. However, the Cartel is mainly composed of three gangs:

CryptoSec[]

CryptoSec

A paramilitary group armed with repurposed and modified Maliwan tech, armor, and weaponry. They are mainly composed of light troopers and smaller machinery but have often procured heavier weaponry such as Thor assault walkers from Midnight's Cairn. They are the largest group in the cartel.

Burnt Ends[]

A unionized gang with a fascination for cookery and crookery, mainly composed of chefs and culinary experts. Their ranks aren't all that different from the Children of the Vault, devised of smaller troops and an occasional mutant among a squad or two, however, are notable for their usage of flame and the sacks of meat they carry around.

The Purpatrators[]

A band of mutant Tinks pumped full of Eridium and are armed with smaller, yet powerful weaponry. Their ranks are also similar to the Children of the Vault, but are notably smaller and, thus, harder to hit; they are also joined by pint-sized Jabbers as well. They are the smallest gang in the Cartel.
