Deadly Bloom is a unique nova shield manufactured by Torgue. Deadly Bloom is obtained from the mission The Overlooked: This is Only a Test located in The Highlands. It can also be found from any suitable loot source.

In Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, it can be obtained by purchasing it in a Vending machine , but can also be obtained via the Grinder.

Special Weapon Effects

What do you mean...theoretically? – Explosive Nova triggered when shields and/or health are depleted.

Usage & Description

  • This shield is particularly ideal for Krieg with a melee build. The explosive damage type can do a number on shielded foes, allowing for easier burn damage. It's also an easy recovery from a failed Buzz Axe Rampage, as he's nearly always within range.
  • This shield is useful for any character to assist in getting second winds as the secondary explosion can quickly revive the character, even if an enemy is behind them. Using it to this effect is easiest when either focusing on close combat or to protect against common melee enemies that may ambush unexpectedly.

Notes

  • Triggers any time the wielder enters Fight For Your Life mode--regardless of whether the shield has recharged since the last nova.
  • Though it displays in inventory as a purple-rarity item, the Deadly Bloom is internally classified as a legendary, and is part of the general legendary loot pool. Because of this the shield has a small chance to be found from any suitable loot source, including from chests and other containers as well as from defeated enemies.
  • It is possible to obtain the Deadly Bloom as a shield reward from Tiny Tina's Lootsplosion Slot Machine.
  • Despite the rarity, the grinder will misread the quality as if it was a legendary, allowing it to be randomly found by grinding three legendary shields.

Trivia

  • The Deadly Bloom was originally supposed to be a legendary item, however due to a minor mishap in the coding the item ultimately became purple rarity.
  • The name and the red text are a reference to the movie The Last Starfighter, and the weapon of last resort loaded onto the Gunstar, called the Death Blossom.
