Dark Army is a legendary submachine gun in Borderlands 3 manufactured by Tediore, and is exclusive to the Designer's Cut DLC. It is obtained randomly from any suitable loot source at Stormblind Complex during the Arms Race mode, and can be brought outside of the area when extracted with a Gear Extractor.
Special Weapon Effects[]
I am the gun. – Summons 3 additional copies of the gun as drones upon swapping to the weapon. On reload, drones have increased damage and gain the elemental damage type of the wielder's weapon for a short time.
Usage & Description[]
While the Dark Army lists a somewhat lower projectile damage than other legendary submachine guns, the drones summoned by equipping the weapon contribute to a much higher effective damage output. Aside from the special weapon effect, the Dark Army's reload throw leaves behind a puddle matching the element of the gun, which damages any enemies that walk into it.
Looking at an enemy while in combat will cause the drones to switch their target to that enemy. If the player doesn't look at a target when combat begins, the drones will shoot at a random enemy within line of sight. The Dark Army's drones can deal damage to enemies when the player is behind cover, which can be used to keep dealing damage while the player's shield regenerates.
Unlike the drone spawned by the Ten Gallon, the drones spawned by the Dark Army do not require ammunition and are able to score critical hits, which allows the drones to trigger certain skills that activate with critical hits. Moze's Redistribution allows the drones to slowly regenerate ammunition for the gun without the player having to consume any ammunition to get the critical hits.
Notes[]
- The Dark Army has an increased chance to spawn in the red chests located in the Madwidth Power loot room.
- Unlike most other weapons with alien barrels, the Dark Army's projectiles do not deal any splash damage.
- Unequipping the weapon will cause the drones to explode and deal 1 damage each.
- The explosions can be used to safely trigger any abilities that activate upon taking damage or refilling shields because the player will almost always be within range of at least one of the drones.
- Opening and closing the user interface (inventory, map, skills, etc.) while holding the weapon will spawn three additional drones close to the player that each explode immediately afterwards in the same way. This is most likely a bug.
- If Iron Bear is deployed while holding this weapon, the drones do not despawn and still follow Moze, tracking and engaging any enemy as they normally do.
- If Moze has the grenade Anointment for having a 20% chance to drop a grenade upon Iron Bear taking damage, the explosions caused by opening the user interface (see previous bullet) will count as Iron Bear taking damage. The explosions can also trigger this effect if they damage Auto Bear.
