- The red text is a reference to U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt's foreign policy ("walk softly and carry a big stick").
- The weapon's name is a reference to one of Roosevelt's contemporaries, U.S. Senator Mark Hanna (R-OH), expressing his displeasure that a man with policies like Roosevelt's had won the presidency.
