D.N.A. is a legendary submachine gun in Borderlands 3 manufactured by Maliwan. It can only be obtained from General Traunt at Mayhem 6 and above.
Special Weapon Effects[]
Death cannot be contained. – Reduced firing speed. Increased charge time, reload speed, and elemental damage over time. Consumes 2 ammo per shot. Fires slow-moving projectiles of randomized elements. Each projectile will split into two at random compass directions after a certain distance, with an elemental beam connecting the two. Projectiles slowly oscillate up and down as they travel.
Usage & Description[]
The D.N.A functions like a Cutsman with randomized elements and splitting directions. It is best used against slow-moving targets, as its projectiles travel slowly and take time to split. While its base damage is middling, it can easily stack elemental damage-over-time on mid-range opponents, allowing the player to simply tag opponents and let it finish them off.
At close range, it is generally ineffective as its projectiles will only do base damage and will not have time to split.
Notes[]
- The D.N.A will not have any elements listed on its item card. As a result, its elemental damage-over-time cannot be determined until it is used in combat.
Trivia[]
- The name and flavor text are a reference to the 1993 film Jurassic Park.
- The text is taken from the line "John, the kind of control you're attempting simply is... it's not possible. If there is one thing the history of evolution has taught us it's that life will not be contained. Life breaks free, it expands to new territories and crashes through barriers, painfully, maybe even dangerously, but, uh... well, there it is."
