Crimson Armory is an area in The Secret Armory of General Knoxx. It houses numerous armaments and vehicles which General Knoxx was going to use for his invasion of Pandora. The player has to infiltrate the base and plant an explosive charge in order to destroy the armory and prevent the invasion. The player is then allowed 3 minutes to loot as much of the armory as they want, but they must exit the armory before it is destroyed.

After the armory's destruction, Marcus manages to purchase the ruins of the Crimson Armory from Atlas and salvage and rebuild it completely. The armory then has a neon picture of Marcus on its front side after his purchase. Apparently, many members of the Lance are discontent with Marcus purchasing the armory. Marcus will allow you to loot the armory two more times if you help him dispense of some of the Lance remnants.

Loot

The loot found in the armory is not as good as one may imagine, with most of it being green or blue weapons. In all, the armory contains several purple weapons, a few orange weapons, and occasionally even a pearlescent weapon, though the likelihood of the player encountering many of these during the time limit is low. The armory is home to 4 floors: The main entry floor, a lower level with no loot, and two floors just above the main floor, which you must take elevators to get to. There is also a wall with nine small rooms that all have weapons boxes behind shields; to access these, players must use a floating platform that can move between rooms, accessible from the main floor.

Glitch

Entering the armory normally invokes a time limit that keeps players from looting the large majority of the boxes within. However there is currently a glitch that will let the player fall through a floor into the armory and open every box, bypassing the time limit. If you enter the armory using this glitch, there is no way out except to quit or to kill yourself. In the latter case, you respawn at the start of the level, the path to the armory remains clear (although some enemies may have respawned in the boss battle area), and you can still complete the mission as intended. Be careful not to walk into the elevator room. If one does the TAKE LOOT part of the mission may becomed checked and due to strange programming causes the entrance door to shut. Exiting to dashboard solves this problem, and if one uses the wall elevator or jump glitch they can reach the top levels.

Trivia

  • The force fields on each room in the wall of rooms (with the floating access platform) are fake. You can pass through them even if the platform is on another room.
  • The floating platform lift can be used to demonstrate that Borderlands obeys the law of conservation of momentum when it comes to vertical movement and jumping. While taking the platform lift from the lower level to the first level, you can jump and fly high enough to land on the second level.
  • On the road which leads to the armoury (Road's End), there is a sign which reads "Road to Hill 30", possibly a reference to the 2005 "Brother's In Arms" game for Xbox, Playstation 2,PC and Wii, also made by Gearbox.
