Commandant Steele-Trap is a boss encountered in Claptrap's New Robot Revolution.

Background

Commandant Steele was once a ruthless Crimson Lance commander overseeing all Lance operations on Pandora. Seeking to exploit the Crimson Lance objectives of acquiring advanced alien technology for her own ends, she soon came into contact with the deranged researcher, Patricia Tannis, and used the scientist's knowledge with Lance resources in a relentless bid for power. Steele's lust for power ultimately proved her undoing when the Vault hunters arrived and instigated a series of events that took both themselves and Steele on a race to uncover the mysterious and legendary Vault. Although she reached the site first, and captured the adventurers soon after, her triumph turned to disaster when she unwittingly unleashed a foul beast that promptly snuffed out her life.

Some time later, she found herself suddenly awake in an unfamiliar place, and in her attempt to complete her victory speech also found herself conflicted by new directives to fight for the glory of claptraps everywhere. More shocking still was the discovery of a gaping hole where her abdomen used to be and the Vault hunters standing before her once again. With instructions to kill the intruders, and those same intruders having been a thorn in her side for far too long, who was she to argue? The Vault hunters would have to die!

Strategy

Main article: Lance Assassin#Strategy

Steele-Trap has many similarities with the Lance Assassins present in the third DLC, The Secret Armory of General Knoxx. Her weapons and fighting style is identical to that of the Omega Assassins - she attacks with two swords for melee, and homing missiles and shuriken for ranged combat.

Steele-Trap is also vulnerable to corrosive damage especially once her shields are depleted, while showing a high resistance to all other elements. This is despite not appearing to be armored like her DLC3 counterparts.

A good tactic to employ in order to minimize damage taken from Steele-Trap is to stay out of melee range, while laying down constant fire, as she will not use her ranged attacks when stunned or dazed. The homing missile that Steele-Trap fires can be dodged and due to its speed and wide arc it is quite likely that the missile will not be able to come back around to strike the evading character. It is also possible for players to shoot down the missile before it hits.

First encounter: Scorched Snake Canyon

The encounter is started by dropping down into a large room with no immediate exits. Scattered around the expansive chamber are a number of crates that can be used tactically during the fight. The crates, reachable by jumping from the pipes, provide suitable leverage and immunity from Steele-Trap's melee attacks.

Second encounter: Wayward Pass

The blocks at the far-right end of the arena are a smaller but sufficient height advantage to receive less attacks. They also act as cover if Steele-Trap approaches for melee attacks. Additionally, the larger area provides enough space to run away and around her, while firing.

Should a character die here it is possible to stay out of the arena area and throw down transfusion grenades. The seeking white globes will find her and one can replenish grenades at the vending machine. A sniping player can hit her without any movement reaction from her once she moves into sight. Boring, but effective.

Trivia

  • How the INAC retrieved her from The Destroyer and the Vault is not clarified.
  • Upon meeting Steele-Trap for the first time, she continues where she left off just prior to being impaled by The Destroyer, including a display of shock as to not only where she is, but also where the hole in her abdomen came from.
  • Although she continues her interrupted speech from the Vault, her dialogue differs from the original. It is unknown whether this was intentional, or a development error.
  • Steel-Trap's assimilation causes her to include fragments of regular Claptrap dialogue in her speech. When defeated the first time, she says "Please, just kill me. Let me die with my dignit-dignity, TSK, TSK, TSK, TSK, Ooooh, check me out! Yeah! Get Down!", and during the second encounter she says, "I... I... I think I lost the beat. Unce..."
