Class Mods are character-specific gear in Borderlands 4 that provide stat bonuses, extra skill points and sometimes unique effects.
Drop Mechanics[]
Class mods begin to drop from enemies once the player reaches level 20; from level 25 onward, they may include firmware.
The number of bonuses on a class mod is determined by its rarity:
| Rarity | # of Bonus Skill Points | # of Stat Bonuses |
|---|---|---|
| Common | 2 | 1 |
| Uncommon | 4 | 1 |
| Rare | 5 | 2 |
| Epic | 7 | 3 |
| Legendary | 7 | 2 random, or 1 random + 1 unique |
Stat Bonuses[]
Class mods can have up to three stat bonuses. These are assigned randomly when a class mod is generated, with the exception of certain legendary mods that replace one of the two random bonuses with a fixed stat bonus unique to that model.

Bonus Skill Points[]
The total number of skill points given by a class mod is determined by rarity, and the skills buffed are chosen randomly from four possible skills unique to each class mod type. Not every skill a mod can buff necessarily will be.
Bonus skill points have effects even if the player hasn't put any points in the associated skill, its prerequisites, or even its skill tree. Class mods can raise a skill's points beyond the maximum amount a player could put in themselves, with the skill's effects increasing correspondingly.
Special Effects[]
Each type of legendary class mod also has unique special effects.
