Cheap Tips is a legendary submachine gun in Borderlands 3 manufactured by Hyperion and is exclusive to the Moxxi's Heist of the Handsome Jackpot DLC. It is obtained randomly from any suitable loot source, but has an increased chance to drop from Jackpot located in VIP Tower.
Special Weapon Effects[]
I'll get home early from work. – Slightly increased critical hit damage and shield capacity. Damaging enemies may drop casino chips that have a chance to boost weapon damage for 12 seconds when picked up. Each chip increases the weapon's damage by 10% and the effect can be stacked.
Usage & Description[]
The Cheap Tips can gain good amounts of damage should the user pick up chips which are generated by the gun. As chips will only spawn at the point of impact, it is best to use this weapon at close to mid range, and have an option to quickly and safely retreat once the chips are picked up.
Notes[]
- The damage boost is indicated by glowing red barriers on the side of the screen.
- Each chip has a separate 12 second timer for its damage boost. Picking up a second chip that gives the bonus does not reset the timer of the first chip with a bonus.
- Picking up the chips counts towards the A Little Pick-Me-Up challenge.
- The dropped chips grant a damage boost to whatever weapon the character is holding, not just the Cheap Tips.
- Hotfix 12/17/2020: Increased the drop chance of casino chips.
Trivia[]
- The weapon's name and flavor text are a reference to "I Want You To Want Me" by Cheap Trick.
- Cheap Tips uses the Mad Moxxi-themed weapon skin "Hot Blooded," but it does not have innate healing properties associated with actual Moxxi weapons.
