"Healing bullets!"
-Mikey Neumann stating Cauterize in an interview before giving a strange look to the camera.
Cauterize is a Tier Two talent in Roland's Medic talent tree that causes his weapon damage to heal teammates. This effect also works with grenades, any Explosive elemental damage associated with a weapon, and any explosive objects on the terrain (such as barrels or gas tanks) which allow Roland to heal several teammates simultaneously using the explosive "splash radius." This skill will also heal any vehicles that contain allies and his Scorpio turret.
Effects[]
Shooting team members heals them. This effect also works with grenades and rockets.
Converts +(6...30)% damage to health
Level | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Damage Converted | 6 | 12 | 18 | 24 | 30 | 36 | 42 | 48 | 54 |
Ranks beyond 5 may be acquired through the use of class mods.
Strategy[]
Impact increases damage with all bullet-firing weapons, which increases the damage from which Cauterize takes a percentage. Combining Impact and Cauterize will maximize the amount of health Roland can heal. Scattershot does the same for shotguns. Having 5 points in both Impact and Scattershot can easily cause the healer to heal more HP than the recipient has, restoring maximum health in a single shot.
Soldiers with Cauterize who throw a Transfusion grenade at an ally will heal both characters.
Crippled Soldiers in a multiplayer game can prolong the life of an adjacent character who is reviving them, by healing their savior with the cauterize effect.
Cauterize can also be used to rapidly repair damaged vehicles. However, the vehicle must have a teammate occupying one of its seats to be considered a "friendly" valid target for Cauterize. If the vehicle is unoccupied, it is considered neutral and the shots will cause normal damage to the vehicle instead of healing it.
Since only one skill point is required to unlock the basic effect, players who wish to use their points elsewhere would still benefit from using one here; the single point means healing will take longer than fully upgrading it to level 5, but the option is available, and can often prove incredibly useful.
Notes[]
- Shooting the claptrap from Fresh Off The Bus prior to mission completion will heal it.
