Butcher is a legendary shotgun in Borderlands manufactured by Hyperion.

Ahhh.... Fresh meat! – 500% Burst Fire with an extremely high fire rate; each shot consists of 3 pellets.

Usage & Description

The Butcher is an unusual shotgun. While its damage output is significantly lower than other shotguns, it is complemented by its exceptionally high fire rate and automatic burst fire. Due to its generally mediocre accuracy, it is best used in a "hit-and-run" fashion, like the S&S Crux. Like all assault shotguns, The Butcher may spawn with any elemental accessory except fire.

Trivia

The name and red text is a reference to Blizzard Entertainment's recurrent Diablo character, The Butcher, a bloated monstrosity with the opening announcement, "Ahhh... Fresh meat!".

Mechanics

The Butcher effect comes from the barrel4_Hyperion_Butcher barrel, which has little in common with barrel_4. For an explanation on how to interpret the information on the following table, please see the stat modifiers page.

-The Butcher is an odd gun. Its accuracy is mediocre at best, its magazine size also fits in the "middling" category, while its projectile count (for a shotgun) is the lowest in the game. Despite all of this though, it has an excellent fire rate. Pulling the trigger once will empty the magazine into an enemy. This would lend it to be useful at close ranges, but its projectile count is so low that it simply lacks the "punch" to kill the stronger enemies on Pandora. The gun itself is too accurate for a "spray-and-pray" style of fighting at medium range as well.
