Brainstormer

The Brainstormer is a legendary shotgun in Borderlands 3 manufactured by Hyperion. it is obtained randomly from any suitable loot source, but has an increased chance to drop from Katagawa Ball located in Skywell-27 on Promethea.

Let's put our heads together. – Always shock. Fires 7 projectiles in a lightning bolt pattern. Hitting an enemy has a chance to cause powerful shock bolts chaining from the target hit to nearby enemies.

Usage & Description

An enemy hit by the Brainstormer has a chance of shooting a random number of chained bolts at nearby enemies, each jumping to one more enemy or back to the first one. The chain lightning deals the damage of one Brainstormer pellet each to both enemies hit, several times per second, for a duration of 2-3 seconds.

Notes

Although the bolts' way of dealing damage may look similar to a Status effect, only gun damage modifiers are applied, not status effect modifiers. Thus, Amara's Anima skill cannot increase the duration of this effect.
A Brainstormer with the Redundant prefix (fires 14 pellets and consumes 2 ammo per shot) has an increased chance of causing more bolts.
Bonus elemental damage from shields, grenade mods, or skills like Amara's Infusion and Forceful Expression, also increase the chance of causing more bolts.
If no enemies are nearby, no shock bolts will occur, greatly reducing the effectiveness of the weapon.
