This page is a detailed guide on how generic, manufacturer-specific, and licensed parts are combined in Borderlands 4 to create the large variety of procedurally generated weapons and gear that are the series's trademark.

Overview[]

In Borderlands 4, "parts" describes anything that modifies how a weapon or piece of gear functions. Certain types of parts are generic and others are manufacturer-specific, and both types can grant special effects to the equipment they're a part of.

There are 5 types of Part in Borderlands 4:

Slots & Rarity[]

  • All items can have up to 3 slots for parts, depending on item type and rarity.
  • If a weapon or grenade shows 4 slots, the 4th one is its default trait (not a part slot).
  • Legendary parts take up 1 slot; legendary quality does not add capacity.
  • Higher rarity does not necessarily mean all part slots will be filled. The number of parts possible is simply the maximum.

Guns can have up to 3 slots for Licensed Parts or Underbarrel Attachments, depending on their rarity.

Licensed parts allow guns not made by a manufacturer to share that manufacturer's unique traits.

Underbarrel Attachment[]

Also known as Alt-Fire, underbarrel attachments allow guns that would not normally have alternative functions to utilize them.

Conflicts[]

  • Underbarrel attachments cannot appear on guns if their manufacturers differ (e.g, Jakobs underbarrel attachments can't appear on Tediore guns and vice versa).
  • Maliwan guns may spawn with different attachments, disabling their element-switching function.

All underbarrel attachments that have "Alt-Fire" as its prefix have been removed for sake of visual clarity.
X depends on the player character's skills, weapon's level, parts, and bonus stats from Enhancement, Class Mod, or Firmware.
