For another game, see Weapons.

Weapons are used to deal damage to enemies in Borderlands 3. Like in previous games, guns are generated with a procedural algorithm. However, unlike in previous installments of the franchise, there is no more mixing of manufacturers' parts. Instead, each manufacturer has multiple variants for each part of a given type of weapon. In addition to this new system, manufacturers have additional gimmicks associated with their products. Grenades use a new parts system as well, as do shields, allowing much greater variety in both.

Elemental Effects[]

Main article: Elemental Damage

Borderlands 3 has the three basic elements of the previous games, namely Incendiary, Shock and Corrosive. While it retains Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel's Cryo element as well, Explosive damage is reclassified as "kinetic" non-elemental splash damage. Borderlands 3 also introduces a brand new element, Radiation. Additionally, most elements (Corrosive being the exception) can interact with bodies of water to cause area-of-effect damage.

Construction[]

Instead of sharing a single pool of weapon parts across a given weapon type, as in previous games, each manufacturer has usually at least 3 or 4 variants for each weapon part. Additionally, in some cases, a weapon may have multiple parts from the same class on it. For example, whereas formerly a weapon could only have a single accessory, some weapons may now have two or even three at once, in addition to part accessories that further modify the effects of a given weapon part. A total of 1,500 to 1,700 different parts, with as many as 35 on an Epic gun, allows there to be a much larger number of possible weapons than ever before; one of the trailers promised "over one billion guns", a number that is actually well under the true figure.

Datamining (numbers current as of 2020-11-09) suggests the game can generate 69,002,788 weapons (anointments non-included) or 4,007,410,150 (anointments included)[1].

Weapons with many accessories will usually be of higher rarity, while common weapons may have no accessory at all. All Unique/Legendary weapons have fixed parts (for barrel and magazine mostly).

Alien Barrels[]

Functions just like E-tech barrels from Borderlands 2, these weird biopunk-styled barrels makes a weapon fires special elemental projectiles at a cost of extra ammunition cost (extra heat per shot for COV weapons).

Due to their nature, Atlas and Jakobs doesn't manufacture common alien barrel weapon.
