"Beyond Groovy"

The Boom Stick

The Boom Stick is a unique combat shotgun made by Torgue with a red text effect.

Examples are on the talk page.

Acquiring The Boom Stick

  • This weapon can be obtained from the mission The Final Piece or as a drop from Baron Flynt as a blue, purple, or on rare occasions an orange item.

Special Effects

  • Beyond Groovy - Fires entire magazine in one click as a burst, and each round is a rocket.
  • Fires the number of shells in the Boom Stick's default magazine. If the magazine is expanded by abilities or class mods you will have the left over rounds to fire in another burst.
  • Always has 0.0 accuracy.

Notes

  • It can also be found as an orange weapon, with the Torgue Friendly Fire accessory which will cause its name to change, but all basic stats stay the same, and it does not appear to follow the rules of the smiley face pattern.
  • It is highly inaccurate and not advisable for close quarters, unless you have both high health and shields.
  • An alternate strategy is to charge in to point blank range with low health and no shields. It will cause a character to become crippled, but usually death will result for the target that was charged.
  • Another good strategy with this weapon (although more effective with versions that have incendiary or corrosive damage) is to close in near-point-blank range and shoot every last round, although a risky strategy for the player it can be used to great effect with most human targets.
  • Another, less harmful to yourself, strategy is to jump or get to some higher ground and shoot at the ground near the enemy. It should be noted that doing this will not kill the enemy immediately due to its nonexistant accuracy and will eat through your ammo (although you can melee to cancel the effect and save ammo in some cases).
  • Interesting fact: this weapon doubles its rate of fire if used by a Berserker with the Master Blaster ability, as well as somewhat giving it additional damage and allow it to fire its rounds in tighter groups (since it, in essence, fires its rounds before the recoil disperses them).
  • With a good Commando mod, as well as Scattershot and Overload, this weapon can become a positively lethal part of any Soldier's arsenal.
  • Due to their massive sizes, The Destroyer, the Rakk Hive, and other such giant bosses are better targets for the Boom Stick, as it can be used from a range that is safer for the user.

Trivia

  • This weapon references quotes from Ash, the main character in Sam Raimi's "Evil Dead" series of movies. Ash introduces a shotgun as his "boomstick" when traveling back in time and also commonly uses the word "groovy" when acknowledging an upgrade to his armaments.
  • A sound sample of Ash talking about his "boomstick" can be heard in the acoustic version of "Junesong Provision" by rock band Coheed and Cambria. Another sample can be heard in two songs by hardcore techno artist Scott Brown in his songs "Boomstick" and "Sonic Boomstick."
  • The name also refers to the common nickname given to shotguns as a "Boomstick", due to its straight design, and loud firing.
