Kill Captain Haunt[]

Once the Vault Hunter drops into the arena, the fight will begin. Captain Haunt has two health bars (one blue and one red), and three distinct phases marked by his red health bar. Unlike the fights with the two Traunt bosses, this boss's shield does regenerate like a normal shield if not shot. The phases themselves are all identical, but each marks an invincibility period.

During the fight, Captain Haunt has numerous attacks that are completely new to this version of the boss. He does not use Cryo and Incendiary damage the same way he did as Captain Traunt. Instead, he fires ghost bullets, lets loose ghost skulls from a sphere, and fires flaming jack-o-lanterns. Captain Haunt's critical spot is his exposed skeletal head.

The complication of this fight starts when his red health bar is reduced by 1/3. At this point, three Shielding Phylacteries will spawn in the arena. They release energy waves that deal a large amount of damage, and are armored. While not unbeatable, the pillars take a considerable amount of punishment before breaking, so corrosive weapons are recommended. Where they spawn is entirely based on RNG, as there are about seven possible spawn locations. The waves they fire do not damage Haunt or the minions running around the arena.

What makes these pillars much more dangerous is two things. Firstly, while they are active, Haunt is immune to all damage. His blue shield bar can regenerate on its own, and likely will before you break them. Additionally, Bloody Harvest Maliwan troopers will spawn into the arena endlessly. This creates a number of things the Vault Hunter must watch: being trampled by Haunt himself (who will be constantlhy following you and firing at you), dodging the energy waves of the pillars while destroying them, and having to constantly kill the Maliwan troopers around the arena as they chase you. It is best not to stick in one place during this phase, as Haunt will inevitably corner you, and the Maliwan Troopers (especially the Dissection Troopers) will quickly close the distance.

Once all three Shielding Phylacteries are destroyed, Maliwan Troopers will no longer spawn, and Haunt becomes vulnerable again. Shielding Phylacteries and Maliwan Troopers will spawn when he loses another third of his health.

During the fight, there are a number of Ghosts travelling across the ceiling that do not attack you, nor do they pose an obstacle. Still, if shot while in Fight For Your Life, they will award a Second Wind.

Completion[]

"You have returned from heck's dark heart. Good. Now Maurice will give you... what you deserve."
