Bandits are hostile humans that inhabit Pandora. They will kill anyone and anything in order to obtain equipment, food, and fuel.

Background

Those of the bandits who have retained their sanity and remained predominantly human have come from a very mixed collection of backgrounds. Many were convicts brought in as cheap labor to the Eridium mines of Pandora by the Dahl corporation and carelessly released when the company severed most ties with the planet. Others have simply turned to banditry in order to survive on Pandora, others simply were just bandits anyway.

Appearances

Strategy

Bandits move quickly and seek cover when they come under fire. They also typically duck into a crouch to reload their guns. They are known to carry a variety of small arms and grenades, and are often encountered wearing shields.

Bandit Thug

Thugs wear dark brown masks that fully conceal their head. These masks have a red stripe at its center and yellow eyepieces. They are often armed with pistols, though they are also known to make use of shields, grenades and submachine guns. They are fairly common among the bandits' ranks. While not tough, thugs will fight somewhat intelligently, using cover and moving from place to place. Thugs are also the operators and drivers of the Out Riders and Mulciber Mk2 Gatling guns used by bandits.

Bandit Thugs have different names for each difficulty level, and for DLC appearances:

  • Playthrough 1: Bandit Thug
  • Playthrough 2: Bandit Goon
  • Playthrough 2 complete: Bandit Outlaw
  • Secret Armory: Outlaw

Bandit Raider

Raiders wear white face masks with goggle-style eye pieces. They are generally well-armed, primarily using submachine guns, and combat rifles and rarely sniper rifles or shotguns. Most raiders are equipped with shields, and will generally make use of cover compared to the other bandits. As with Bandit Thugs, Raiders also make use of grenades.

Wearing a full, head-covering mask with red eye slits and a black cross pattern on the face. Bandit Killers prefer close-quarter combat, making use of both combat rifles and shotguns. They generally disregard cover and will fire out in the open to maintain accuracy against enemies. Those armed with shotguns will generally close in to deal as much damage as possible, though they don't throw grenades at enemies.

Bandit Killers have different names for each difficulty level, and for DLC appearances:

  • Playthrough 1: Bandit Killer

Like many enemies in Borderlands, there are elite versions of bandits. They are better equipped than normal bandits as befits their higher rank among Pandora's scum. The particularly vicious Badass Raiders can be identified by their large, spiked shoulder pads.

Badass Raiders are similar to Bandit Raiders in how they fight, in which they make extensive use of grenades, are equipped with either submachine guns or combat rifles, and are always equipped with shields. Badass Raiders will take cover far more often compared to their normal counterparts, and will make a mad dash to another area to take cover in if they are being focused on.

Badass Raiders have different names for each difficulty level:

  • Playthrough 1: Badass Raider
  • Playthrough 2: BadMutha Ravager
  • Playthrough 2 complete: SuperBad Desperado
